I've finally picked up on Chapter 2 of #Catwoman 'I've Got my reasons' one of many poor, neglected #fanfictions. Starts & ends with classic BatCat badinage with lots of Selina being a magnificent bastard to people who absolutely deserve it inbetween. #batman archiveofourown.org/works/501784...

The daughter’s currently obsessed with Lilo & Stitch: The Series. It’s a relentlessly grim saga in which a wee girl is repeatedly bullied by an objectively awful little shit & her equally vile friends then gaslit by the surrounding adults into believing it’s all her fault.

Pictures: an objectively awful little shit.

I’m sorry, but if a film that has Michelle Pfeiffer in a painted on costume straddling Michael Keaton with visible tenting between his legs doesn’t get your blood pumping, you are actually clinically unalive.

A ‘grim and boring’ moment from Batman Returns.

I’m loving playing Star Wars Outlaws so far- Kay Vess is a FUN she-scoundrel. And the texture and grain of the environments so far really add to the experience. Makes me want a similar style of game with a young early days Catwoman, clawing her way up in the Gotham underworld..

Happened upon BBC’s the Toddler Club this morning (which my nearly five year-old is now way too sophisticated for…) and was reminded of 1)how hot all the presenters are and 2) how Gemma belted out all those nursery rhymes as if she was knee deep in the late-stage carnage of a Hen Night in Leeds.

#Catwoman 70 was superb. Selina is both gritty and stylish, much more human and humane. Loved the riffs on Tik Tok and snitching, the granular depiction of Berlin, Selina as a master of disguise, her smarts on full display and Fabiana Mascolo's art. Best Catwoman I've read since One Bad Day.

Holly Robinson. Ground-breaking LGBTQ+ character who punches her way out of her *apparent* waif/sacrificial lamb status to take the lead in improving the lives of those around her, one bit at a time. DC’s Rick Jones, but potentially way more interesting, if they just knew what to do with her…

I admit, I was an Absolute Batman sceptic, but 2 issues in and I think it may be some of Scott Snyder’s finest work. I’ve often struggled to connect with Snyder emotionally as well as intellectually, but this has heart, grit and wit. There’s something about his alt-Gotham that just clicks…

So basically...she's a complex, multi-layered character with an amazing 80 year history who is often misunderstood (she kind of likes it that way) and always has more going on than you think. As is the way with Cats.

Catwoman sticks out her tongue. From the Injustice comics series.

But underneath is a much softer centre - she's not nice, but she can be kind -shockingly so. Her sense of justice is just as strong as a certain Bat's. And she understands aspects of Gotham HE can never quite grasp, even as she admires his determination & sense of mission.

120

Cat O’ Nine Tales @catoninetalez.bsky.social · 14/11/2024

...all elements that make her a feminist icon and not just an anti-hero, but a working class hero in a genre where those can be scarce. A big theme of the character is that she came from nothing, had to fight to survive and developed a hard shell that made other people despise, diss and dismiss her.

In what should shock nobody who takes even a cursory glance @ my pfp, it's this lady. Why?
