Easy to think of your cat as just an animated teddy bear and then one of them gets really excited about the leftover roast beef and you get a glimpse of THOSE FANGS.

Today's pottery class--doing glaze tile samples. (In our pottery workshop these little round plugs are called “tiles.”) Looking forward to seeing how these colors look next week after firing! Our first pots and mugs finally came out of the kiln, so next week we glaze for real.

Yesterday's pottery class--how to trim. You do this partly for aesthetics, partly to prevent kiln explosions. Here, attempting a foot, the raised ring on some pieces. Am NOT showing you my poor attempts at handles, because I was too busy dealing with them to take any pictures.

My cat-dog, Nutmeg. She follows me quietly all over the house while I'm doing my chores. Once I've settled down somewhere, and she was an idea of where I'll be, she can be off on her own business. (Finishing up all the kibble left over from breakfast.)

My cat Barnaby, the semi-feral, was out in all weathers. For the longest time, he would only come into the house during blizzards--and then only the garage. I adore my two new sister cats, but they won't go out on the catio unless conditions are perfect. I miss Barnaby's tough spirit sometimes.

Second throwing class. My pots are starting to look more like cylinders and less like bowls. Still, there's a LONG way to go. I'm curious about my fellow potters and why they're there, but we're all too hard at work throwing to do any socializing so far. #art #creative #amcreative

I started a pottery course last week, and so far this is what I've learned--you cannot check your phone anytime during the throwing process, and you forget everything else in your life because the throwing itself is so difficult, fun, and absorbing. This is my first pot!
