One of the authors of the "independent" review is Simon Wessley who in a fair world would be in disgrace over his involvement in the PACE trial for ME/CFS. He stubbornly refuses to acknowledge the biomedical realities of the illness. He is an absolute charlatan. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PACE_tr...

Why do they even think somebody would want carers if they didn't need them? We'd all much rather do the things without assistance if we were physically capable.

I have a (bedbound) friend who was denied the care hours she needed. Because she didn't go into A&E (ER) , they didn't believe the severity of her illness. She's too unwell to go to hospital and they wouldn't be able to help her even if she did.

Honestly some things you can't get elsewhere online. Other things you might need urgently and can't wait 3-5+ days for shipping. And if you don't have anybody who can help you shop from bricks and mortar stores, it can be the only alternative. I boycotted amazon for years until I became disabled.

From age 24 onwards I've been more functionally impaired than many people in their 80s!

Its yet another message that disabled young people don't exist. I already face resistance when asking for accommodations I need - often with the implication that I'm not old enough to apparently need those accommodations. (Home visits from doctors etc)

I'm also disappointed that the proposed national social care service is apparently only going to be for over 65s!!! I know so many people in their 20s-40s who are getting inadequate social care. Not everybody has family who can or will support them.

The proposed national social care service only available to over 65s. Health element of UC might be removed for under 25s. Labour government decides young disabled people don't exist. Shame on them.

For the love of the universe and the sake of millions of people with #MECFS and #LongCOVID can some funding body please fund the rest of #SequenceME / LC already?! WGS is one of the greatest crowning achievements of science and has enormous potential for pointing the compass in the right direction.

What's the difference if you need social care at 25 or 65? Not every younger disabled person has family support. I know plenty of working age disabled people who aren't given the care hours they need to live independently and are physically struggling as a result.

It took 4 hours after seeing the doctor just to have cannula removed and be sent home. Crashing the entire time. It felt like physical torture. I needed a bed, they would not give me a bed.

Very useful work. I recently spent 8 hours upright in a chair in A&E, nurses did not show any response when my mum told them how badly I was crashing. Even after I fainted I got to lay down for 10 minutes then back on a very upright chair. I was worried I'd never recover from the experience.

At the UK covid inquiry a couple years ago NHS senior staff still refused to say covid was airborne even when directly questioned on it. And a recent trip to A&E where I was the only person masked shows how successful this cover-up has been.

Cat Hulme @cathulme.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Its this but also there has been a genuine conspiracy to convince the public at large that covid has gone away or is only a cold now. And people will buy that because its what they want to believe. (Plus its kind of ableist to not care about spreading colds and other viruses too)

Twice as many disabled MPs voted against a bill that would have legalised assisted suicide in England and Wales as those that voted in favour, according to calculations by Disability News Service. …

People need to stop thinking that disability is worse than death. Its pretty insulting to disabled people.

Cat Hulme @cathulme.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
The concern is there because in other countries where its been legalised initially for terminally ill they have later extended it to all people suffering from physical ailments.

As a disabled person I listen to what people who live where it is legal have said about coercion and about being rejected for welfare but approved for assisted dying. I can see that happening in this climate. A large segment of the population just view us as "useless eaters"

Terrible idea to bring in assisted dying with a potential fascist (Reform) government looming over our future. Better to sort out social care, increase welfare for disabled, and improve palliative care first. I support assisted dying in theory but this is not the time.

Before I became disabled I was very pro-assisted dying. But since becoming disabled I've seen how ableist many medical staff are and I've lost trust completely. Also its been eye-opening as to how inadequately disabled people in the UK are supported to LIVE. People still don't believe me on this.

But the way disabled people's concerns have been sidelined is inexcusable. I've been shouted down as a religious nutcase (I'm not religious at all) whenever I have expressed concerns about the slippery slope and lack of safeguards.

Cat Hulme @cathulme.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
The disappointing thing is that many of us who would want to demonstrate against it are too disabled to do so. The pro- side has able bodied relatives of people who sadly died prolonged deaths and in their grief they don't want others to suffer, which is valid...

It’s been offered to me. It’s been offered to patients like me. I said no… and I am still waiting for healthcare and social supports. That’s coercion. You can’t ethically administered assisted dying when you won’t commit to assist people with surviving.

The Nazis came for the disabled first. They tested gas chambers on us. They deemed us “useless eaters”. They had propaganda convincing people we were expendable. They got many of these ideas from the US. Eugenics is not new. Disability solidarity is needed to fight fascism.

Yet another wave of COVID and prevention still isn’t being taken seriously. Until prevention is properly prioritised, we have to take responsibility for our own risk reduction. That means continuing with the practical precautions we know work, even if those around us have stopped taking them.
Infographic from Long Covid SOS titled “THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT LONG COVID IS TO AVOID COVID”. It lists five ways to reduce the risk of catching and spreading Covid:
Mask icon and text “Wear the best mask you can. Wearing a good mask like an N95 or better when in public will give you the best protection”
Home icon and text “Stay home and isolate if ill. If you feel unwell isolate yourself from others until you are feeling better and testing negative”
Unwell icon and text “Test if you have symptoms Symptoms of Covid? Isolate and test. Repeat test while symptomatic and mask around others”
Ventilation icon and text “Ventilate or meet outside. Clean air is the best way to prevent spreading and catching Covid so make sure fresh air is circulating”
Long Covid still has no cure
Medical icon and text “There is no cure for Long Covid so the best way to avoid it is to take steps to avoid catching Covid”
The graphic uses teal panels with white text and orange-and-white circular icons. Long Covid SOS branding appears at the bottom right and contact information FOR MORE INFORMATION OR HELP WITH LONG COVID PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITE WWW.LONGCOVIDSOS.ORG on left.

And this is all putting aside that I try and kid myself and others all the time that my disability is better than it is, not worse than it is. We fake wellness. Not illness.
