I was referring to statements by Bono and Larry Mullen Jr in this interview where he twice cites Eno arguing that it's never anyone's place to criticize an artist for political involvement or lack of: people.com/bono-ed-shee...

Bono: “I would say with Ed and Macklemore that we shouldn’t personalize this, what’s going on. Brian Eno said today that pop stars are like little fish in a large sea of huge forces and religion and politics. And so I don’t want to dwell on Ed and Macklemore and that incident,"

Drummer Larry Mullen Jr. also referred to something Eno, 78, had said in the past.

“Brian Eno was saying that artists choose whether they want to be involved, and they are entitled to choose whether they want to be involved or not,” he said. “And it’s not our job to criticize that, no matter how we feel.”

Added Mullen Jr.: “He said that it takes time for these things to evolve and people to come to realizations and, not to personalize this, but Bob Geldof was saying a similar thing. I really appreciated hearing that because it is confusing and it is complicated.”

Like I'm sorry I don't think any of the reads in this screenshot make any sense. To me the punchline read as a bait and switch: "we hear you, we will find a better rapist" as opposed to "we hear you, we will find a not-rapist". The joke is still objectionable without taking it as pro-Platner
