I think so. At the time some of the founders had slaves and the black was what, 3/5 of a person? The racism aspect wouldn't have been a difficult thing to compromise on. Of course, women were chattel. Added to that, they counted on 3 co-equal branches to ensure country not becoming a monarchy.
