I find it funny how you guys put words in my mouth. I don't think achievements ruined gaming. I do think achievements ruin some people's mental health though. I've personally met enough people who stuck to games they had no fun with for literal thousands of hours because of achievements.

Not sure what's wrong with the pc port of sonic adventure 2. I press play, pick the display, resolution and controller I want to use and I go. I'll take that over a modernised port that incorrectly autosets that for me and makes it a pain in the ass to change. Looking at you, God Eater Resurrection.

Last winter when I got sick as fuck I spent 36 hours over the course of 2 and a half days to go through Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. The game captivated me from the first hour and at the end of that marathon I concluded that it was one of the most emotionally impactful games I ever played.

Not sure if I understand the problem. If I have a week off and no pressing matters to take care of I can easily handle all the house chores, cook the dinner, and still have 10 hours to dump into a hobby I'm currently invested in. It doesn't make me suffer.

I really hate this trend in high budget games. If it was at least 200gb of quality content. But most likely it's going to be 160gb of geometry for pointless but seemingly mandatory open world with nothing in it. So much of bloated hardware requirements boils down to shit that doesn't improve games.

To me the sense of feeling lost is part of what makes the experience fun to begin with. Experimenting, learning. It's fun. I like it. I like being allowed to fail, I like being allowed to be confused. Games that just take me on a guided trip through a linear hallway are just immensely boring to me.

It's an easy mental fallacy to fall into and I understand the appeal very well because I slipped into this line of thought many times myself. But nothing good comes out of it. Universe is not intentional. Claw as much joy out of it as you can. That way you have better odds you'll keep some of it.
