Kevin McCloud delivered a lecture for SAVE’s 50th anniversary celebrations. This struck a chord. 'When we bulldoze buildings we also destroy the collective memory, culture and identity of the communities they belong to.' It's a reminder that buildings are far more than just materials. ⛪

SAVE celebrates the listing of 'One of the most memorable and theatrical spaces on the Underground.’ Iconic 20th-century Southwark Station gives off Star Trek vibes and is totally deserving of its new Grade II recognition. Well done to @savetoreuse.bsky.social for a successful campaign. 🚂

'Stonehenge of the carbon age' is how Sir Antony Gormley described the cooling towers at Britain’s last coal-fired power station, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, Nottinghamshire. Whether you like or loathe these enigmatic markers of the landscape, listing has been rejected and they will be demolished by 2030.

🧵A stark warning from the National Churches Trust: 1 in 20 churches say they'll probably or definitely not be used for worship in 5 years. That's hundreds of historic buildings which are community anchors, architectural gems and living heritage, all facing an uncertain future. #heritage #churches
The image shows the outside of the former church of St Osmund (Grade II*) in Parkstone, Dorset, was designed by ES Prior and Arthur Grove and completed in 1916. Following structural problems it was sold in 2005 but it remains a place of worship, now as St Dunstan’s Antiochian Orthodox Church.

Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot... The day Guy Fawkes tried to blow up The House Of Lords. Even though it's a different structure now, having been rebuilt after a fire in 1834, it's still a good excuse to highlight this impressive historic building! 🏦

SAVE's Building of the Month deserves a mention. Increasingly rare, this is a charming, unlisted late 19th-century tin church, nestled in woodland in Sherfield English, Hampshire, just waiting for a new job. Let's hope it finds one soon! ⛪ www.savebritainsheritage.org/news/buildin... #church

Our director JT visited Wells Cathedral with Cliveden Conservation and Nick Cox Architects. Pioneering mortar repairs carried out in the 80s and 90s were found to have faired really well, but much of the sculpture needs further repairs. #HeritageConservation #BuildingConservation #StoneMasonry

Gasholders! Industrial landmarks or eyesores in need of demolition? Love them or hate them, they are very much part of our landscape. Sometimes they even give us a sci-fi moment, as these Hilsea horton spheres did in 1967, when testing their emergency cooling system. ©IGEM #gasholders #heritage

On this day series... Birth of the English architect Sir Arthur William Blomfield in 1829. A prolific Gothic Revival architect, Blomfield built and sensitively restored many churches in the UK and overseas, the latter including Christ Church Cathedral, Port Stanley, Falkland Islands (1890-92).
