iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Last but not least, the main menu art! 💀👁️ - Thank you for reading 🩶 I've published a (post-jam) short dev log here if you'd like to see a bit more: buhlien.itch.io/the-necroman... #GameDev #GameArt

The Necromancer's Toque | Main Menu art, with the game's main character, Play/Settings/Quit buttons, and a spooky background featuring the castle, some trees, graves, ghosts, and collectable resources

Anddddd here are some tests to check each area's mood, readability, and recognizability! 📝 (made in Procreate, later translated into Godot)

The Necromancer's Toque | Quick renders for each biome

All the environment assets you can encounter in the game's six biomes (I'd have loved to provide even more asset variety, but alas we had limited time!) - minus some, that I decided to scrap while dressing up the map. Most of them were designed to be repeated in more than one area (optimization!) 😌

The Necromancer's Toque | A variety of environment assets to be placed in the game's different exterior areas (trees, grass, mushrooms, rocks, and other elements), a stylized Castle sprite and a Summoning Circle

For the enemies, little ghosts (a slight variant for each biome)! 👻 Who had the time to animate walking cycles within the scope of this project? (not us) 🥹

The Necromancer's Toque | Sprites for the game enemies, ghosts, in six variants matching the game areas

Some hand-drawn UI elements: the backgrounds, icons and arrows were made in Procreate (as the entirety of the game's assets) 💀✏ If you get to play the build, you'll see how much more satisfying they are in game thanks to our programmer Julien's animations and @marinahascoffee.bsky.social's sfx 🩶

The Necromancer's Toque | UI mock-up of the Workbench, featuring craftable upgrades (9) and sceptres (3)

Icons for all the equippable toques: one for each area ❄️🔥🐸☠️👿, plus a secret one (🐱!) The shadow biome one (with demon horns) ended up becoming the game's icon, while the cat hat was part of the very first sketches and the team didn't want to scrap it 😌

The Necromancer's Toque | Icons for all the wearable toques: unequipped, ice-themed, fire-themed, swamp-themed, poison-themed, devil-themed and a (secret) cat hat!

... And the playable character! Just a Lil Guy™ with their many toques, which can be found by exploring extensively the game map, and their sceptres... or, well, a stick and three (battery-powered) magic sceptres! 🪵🪄🪄🪄

The Necromancer's Toque | The game's main character, a chibi skeleton in dark, long, clothing, followed by variants of the same sprite, wearing all the available toques in the game (6), then all the craftable sceptres (4)

131

Some environment assets for the throne room: the Sceptre Rack (where you can equip your toques and sceptres), the Crafting Station (for upgrade unlocks); then some decorative items: a cart filled with skulls and bones, a hamster-powered charging station, a coffin and a cauldron. 🐹

Two of the Throne room NPCs, the Jester (with their kitten) and the Toque Knitter. I relate to both for different reasons 😌✨

Our very cute King (just a Lil Guy!) and his Royal Guards. The throne was heavily inspired by V Rising's Castle Throne, which I always found comically tall 🖤

I'm compiling all the visual assets I made for our jam game, The Necromancer's Toque, into some artboards for a neat thread 🧵 This is the Throne Room, the first thing I designed, which helped us settle on an art style and vibe! #GameDev #GameArt

The Necromancer's Toque, our little jam game, is online! ☠️ As the tiny assistant of a very fashionable King of The Undead, face the dangers of the underworld to gather everything you need to craft the Ultimate Toque! 🌳🪨💎 (made in two weeks, lil 🐛s to be expected 💜) buhlien.itch.io/the-necroman...

the real reason I haven't finished hollow knight yet is that I fixated on this fight in the colosseum I clearly don't have the skills for (I'm pretty sure half of my playtime is trying this fight lmao) 🕷️

sorry for disappearing for a while! I recently caught COVID (in 2025??? .........yes) and haven't been very energetic (in addition to not having much to share in general) BUT passing by just to remind you to play the skate story demo because it's perfection 😭

a screenshot from skate story (the demo version on steam). a character made of glass is skateboarding towards a bright moon, surrounded by stars and light reflections. the text reads: "The Skater rode on a bed of stars."
