The other woman waiting here has been waiting since 8 AM. That means 3 scheduled buses have not come. We’ve now seen 2 westbound 72M buses go past. They are supposed to turn around in Pt Richmond and then head back this way.

My #ACTransit bus is now 17 minutes late. I was 16 minutes early to the stop, so I know I didn’t miss it. #72M Macdonald @ 25th.

One thing I end up going back to over and over again is: while the criminal justice system could do so much better in protecting rights, the only thing that can adequately address a pervasive problem like this is social/cultural change. Rape arises from and reasserts rape culture/patriarchy.

See that CERT vest? A good time to get involved and trained is *before* the next disaster. Are you involved in organized neighbors, CERT, or other voluntary helpfulness?

We don’t have a right to ask whether we’re going to succeed or not. The only question we have a right to ask is what’s the right thing to do?” --Wendell Berry

The phrasing “has no plans to send” feels slippery to me. Why not say “we will not send”? Leaving an opening for an ‘unplanned by us’ deployment?

It all makes sense now! I honestly never thought about professors of specific instruments. I was in linguistics and specializations were very abstract.

I left HS after 11th, went to community It’s college for 3 years, university for a year, took a break and worked, went back for some odd number of quarters to finish my BA. Did 2 years of a PhD, dropped out, later getting my teaching credential while teaching but not even all from one institution!

It makes sense, just wasn’t sure that was what was meant. I had such discontinuous post-secondary schooling that I could never count it that way.

This is a related and expanded graphic which emphasizes an important point: Higher speeds reduce your visibility and reaction time, making it more likely you'll hit someone or something, and then when you *do* hit them, it's more likely to be fatal.
A graphic that says Why Speed Matters

Below that are two stats:

Drivers yield 75% of the time while traveling 20 mph
Drivers yield only 17% of the time when traveling 37 mph

The next line shows that drivers have a much wider field of vision at 15 mph as compared to 30 to 40 mph.

Finally, there are three stats:

9 out of 10 pedestrians survive when hit by a car traveling 20 mph
5 out of 10 survive at 30
1 out of 10 surive at 40

Richmond BPAC’s summer trail cleanup …

Catalyst N Compost @catalystakaze.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
Oh I’ve done the rides many times in the past. It is fun to ride with a group but getting to the starting point is a ride I don’t like, which I already have to do several times a week for work. There are limited ways to get across the tracks. They all suck.

Richmond is crisscrossed with barriers (busy streets, train tracks and freeways) that make it feel precarious to bike across town or between neighborhoods. Now cars are bigger and it seems like everyone drives faster, it feels scarier than ever.

Catalyst N Compost @catalystakaze.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
Can’t make it, where can I find the survey? I’m so tired of how hard it is yo get around Richmond safely if you don’t drive. I’ve been advocating for changes here for 17 years. Still so many barriers!

I know what you mean by calling it a routine scene because I grew up in California & currently live in the east bay, but this is not a “routine” set of colors for most of this country. The golden hills of CA summer are indeed special!

I had the same thought. It seems like a normal thing to do, even not under the cloud of suspicion that’s there. Just a friendly “glad to hear you are recovering” visit. Bring some flowers and card. Ask for a selfie with him.

People whose only motivation for not doing bad things is avoiding punishment should be kept away from all positions where they wield power to hurt others. He completely lacks any moral compass and doesn’t even understand the concept.

Simplest explanation: he called a friend to say he was having chest pains, she told him to go unlock his front door, then she hung up with him and called 911. Meanwhile LG didn’t make it to the door to unlock it. Doesn’t seem mysterious. But still, a good day, however it went down.

Generally, if there’s a rule against something, it is because there was a problem in the past that the rule is meant to prevent from happening again.

Black text on white page that reads:

Extreme heat is dangerous, but heat illness is preventable.

Every employer should do everything in their power to protect their workers from extreme heat. New York City also requires employers to provide Protected Time Off for heat-related illness and prohibits retaliation against workers for requesting it.

Employers should provide access to water and shade, build in more time for breaks on the hottest days, and move strenuous work to cooler hours whenever possible.

These simple steps can help ensure every worker makes it home safely.

I’m presuming if the band had invited their friends, they’d have had a bigger crowd, so they likely told nobody and those five randos were just passing nearby and stopped to take a gander.
