The trimming process for a red and white agateware/marbled vase. This is the step where the contrast really shows up, and you get to appreciate the pattern you made. #agateware #pottery #trimmingpottery #ceramics #porcelain #marbleart #marble

New marbling technique. I call this 'second-pass' marbling. You take the trimmings of other marbles pots, and throw a new pot with them. Creates a much more busy, chaotic, and natural pattern. I like it. Excited to see what it looks like fired. #pottery #ceramics #art #marble #agateware #porcelain

Some more oil bottles. These still had the crazing issue on the exterior, but a different glaze on the interior is fine and food safe. #pottery #ceramics #art #marble #agateware #porcelain

MSorry, no pottery today. I'm busy making a rapier. I actually had way more material than I thought, so I still need to thin it out and probably cut off a good amount towards the tip. Might make a dagger out of the extra bits. #blacksmithing #damascussteel #swords

Finally got to trimming those new marbled bottles. I really love how the patterns popped after. It's always a nightmare to try and trim their bottoms too, but usually I can get it done with some effort. #pottery #ceramics #porcelain #art #agateware #marble

A marbled agateware mug's bottom is shown, with patterns similar to those of Jupiter's atmosphere visible.

Sometimes it's nice to make a really solid plain stoneware piece. 10 lbs of red clay turned into a nice curvy vase in 10 real life minutes. #potteryvideos #pottery #clay #ceramics #throwingpottery #art

New oil bottles. I have mixed feelings on the pattern (I think it's too small and spiraly) but they're pretty anyways. #pottery #art #ceramics #agateware #marble

This is a semi-historical recreation of a tuscan marbleware piece from circa 1650. The technique used is my default one, so not similar to how those were made, but of a similar shape, which I thought was interesting. #ceramics #clay #porcelain #agateware #pottery

Before/after firing a marbled oil bottle. This actually became my own water bottle as it was too small to fit an oil pourer spout. I love this pattern so much. #pottery #art #ceramics #marble

The trimming process for some of my marble mugs. I love how the patterns show after the slip gets trimmed away. The process for trimming the bottom of these is kind of a nightmare, and can go well or not, depending on how cooperative the pieces are. #pottery #ceramics #agateware #marble #clay

A large bronze colored ceramic bottle. The bottle sits next to a smaller marbled purple and white bottle.

This is another big bottle that I made, which took about 10 minutes throwing. I really like these with a narrow top and flat/even sides (which they'll have after trimming). They're also a lot quicker to make than the sectional pieces with the same height/mass. #pottery #art #ceramics #clay

An orange marbled oil bottle. As with the recent red one, it may be a bit too busy, so I need to have a lighter touch when wedging in the future. I think the bottom looks pretty killer though, so the real pot heads out there will probably dig it. #pottery #ceramics #agateware #marble #art

An unedited 3 minutes of me throwing a mug. As with all my agateware, it really doesn't look like I know what I'm doing since the clay is uneven in terms of moisture and hardness. Anyways, it's still fun to do. #potteryvideos #ceramics #porcelain #pottery #agateware #marble

New oil bottle. This one was also affected by the cracking issue, but should be ok for liquids. I think the pattern may be a bit busy. I'm sure it'll find a loving home with someone who likes it tho. Maybe with a firefighter. #pottery #ceramics #agateware #marble #art

Orange mug. This one has a seperate glaze on the inside, so won't need re-firing with a painted on interior glaze to make it food safe. #pottery #ceramics #art #agateware #marble
An orange and white marbled mug. The pattern is seen up close and swirls and cracks in the glaze can be observed. Another angle of the pattern up close.

My first purple marbled mugs. It's a bit of a shame that they also had an issue with cracking glaze that this batch suffered, but I think I'll be able to paint some purple glaze in the inside and re-fire them to get them completely food safe. #pottery #ceramics #art #porcelain #marble #glaze

New mugs. This one is red/pink/white. I think I'm not the biggest fan of this gradient technique as it lowers contrast, but I'm sure someone still loves it. Also some issues with the glaze, probably just a bit too thick. #pottery #art #ceramics #agateware #marble

This is my first large agateware piece since my recent haitus. Trowing something this large, with clay at 2 seperate moisture levels was tough. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out tho, and I didn't waste too much clay, ~6 lb. The marbling came out good too. #pottery #ceramics #art #agateware

A close up of the pattern of an oil bottle I made. The weird thing is I have no memory of ever making brown/gold stained porcelain clay, but here it is. I probably got swamped making a ton of different colors and got my wires crossed. #agateware #porcelain #ceramics #pottery #art #clay #marble

Filming me throwing agateware makes me look like an awful potter. I use 2 clays that are different hardnesses, so the pieces go off center every move, and create more thin and thick spots. Nevertheless, I'm pretty happy with how these oil bottles are turning out. #pottery #agateware #ceramics #clay

I've been making a sheathe for some knives I made recently. I really like how the first one came out, and have already begun one for my sword. Unfortunately I don't have punches I like for a large pattern so I'll have to wait a bit to finish that. #leatherworking #blacksmithing #art

Hitting my butter crocks with a hammer, but not to break them. I have to give each of them a tap after I fire them together. This process minimizes warping of the rim. A little bit of shock with a wooden hammer is enough to get them seperated though. #pottery #agateware #buttercrock #ceramics #art

This mug came out in the latest firing, and I think it's the best marbling I've got in red yet. It has a great progression from high contrast to gentler marbling, blending red and white at the top, along with so much motion accross the entire body. #pottery #ceramics #agatewate #marble #mugs #clay

A pile of 5 black and white ceramic coasters sit on a table. They are spiraled black and white, akin to marble. The bottom is shown, with cork attached. The coasters are shown standing on their sides against a plant pot.

Bisqued blue/red/white agateware mugs. I was going for more of a pink, but these will unfortunately fire to a pretty saturated red. Still very happy with the pattern and result tho. #pottery #art #ceramics #mugs #marble #agateware
Two pink blue and white mugs sit in front of a colorful wall. A close up of one mug shows a very marbled surface of pink and blue lines on a white base. A different close up shows other patterns and shapes made of the colors.

The (mostly) complete process of how I make agateware mugs. Inverting the clay when wedging, reversing the wheel, and trimming every surface are key to a marbled look, which distinguishes this style from most spiralware. #pottery #art #ceramics #clay #agateware #marble #handmade #wheelthrown #mugs

An agateware planter. This one was made with throwing scraps, so it's more layered and spiraly/sedimentary-rock-esque than my usual stuff. However, I think that actually works well for smaller planters. #agateware #pottery #planters #ceramics #art #marble
