To describe in brief the movie Send Help, me and the person I went with came out of it both saying “…That was definitely a movie.” A lot of promise that just didn’t really land that third act. Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien had great chemistry though! Full review below #letterboxd #filmsky

Send Help 2026

Watched Feb 14, 2026

This movie really defies easy explanation for me. It feels like there was a really genuinely strong movie here hidden in the jumpscare corpse of a 4/10 movie, and that only a few small changes could have made that work.
The positives:
- Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien are a genuinely good duo in this movie, particularly as Dylan's character opens up and we get past the seemingly one-note nepo baby veneer.
- The setting is gorgeous, and they do a good job of exploring the space throughout the movie.
- The action scenes are generally well-constructed, and the two do a good job of selling said action as actually life-threatening.The negatives:
- The movie just does not feel like it really earns its turn to insanity to me. While Dylan's character is undoubtedly a massive ass, in the end his interactions with McAdams prior to their stranding aren't really the sort of long-term animosity you would expect to escalate to what we get by the third act. There certainly is enough for much of the escalation in the first two acts, but it just doesn't quite earn that third act for me.
- The movie also contains several smaller plot elements that seemed to be setting things up for the third act that weren't present at the end. The big example that comes to mind is the fakeout castration scene, which planted the idea in my mind that that final fight would undoubtedly feature Dylan's character getting castrated, or at least an attempt to do so. However, it never
comes up.
- Some of the CGI for the movie dips from
'charmingly bad' to 'just straight up bad! The plane crash is especially full of CGI which really took away any of the intensity of the moment for me.- The ending was shocking, but it wasn't really especially satisfying for me. It felt as if it was a bit of a 'subversion for subversion's sake' ending. When I and the person I saw it with are spending the whole ride home coming up with alternate ideas for endings and plot elements, it just doesn't feel like a movie that's really nailed the execution.

I can 100% see why someone would really enjoy this movie: the chemistry between the leads is genuinely engaging, and the feeling of teetering towards that third act is thrilling at points, but there were just so many smaller things that just didn't quite hit for me. I recommend this movie though, if only because it definitely isn't an experience you'll forget.

Nouvelle Vague was a delight to watch, and helps me stay firm in keeping Linklater as my all-time favorite director! Would highly recommend watching, as I had a blast, even as someone with literally zero knowledge of French cinema #letterboxd #filmsky

This film was a delight to watch. Absolutely oozing style the entire length, Richard Linklater has done the unthinkable: make watching a dickhead French auteur torture actors and staff incredibly entertaining. Some of the shots in this movie were genuinely breathtaking. The whole cast was phenomenal, but Guillaume Marbeck as Godard and Zoey Deutch as Seberg absolutely stole the show. Even in what was ultimately a pretty uneventful story, the movie manages to keep you hooked off the strength of the performances and cinematography. Easy 9/10 for me. Not my favorite of Linklater's filmography (Boyhood and the Before movies still remain on top), but it shows that he still has the stuff. Highly recommend!

Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman were phenomenal in this movie - their chemistry is undeniable, and their banter is what makes the first couple acts of this movie feeling fresh even as the relationship stagnates. Where the movie suffers is from two points: the supporting cast and the "War" part of the film. Kate McKinnon's scenes felt incredibly out of place within the humor of the movie, and while Andy Samberg had a bit better material to work with on that front, he also ran into that problem to an extent. It felt like an infusion of SNL sketch-comedy into what was an otherwise well-acted black comedy in a way that really clashed for me.The "War" section of the movie had some good pieces, but it just didn't feel earned to me. The buildup was progressing very well, but it never quite felt like Cumberbatch's character was ever truly at the point of attempted murder. Colman's was closer to that point, but even still it felt like we were a scene or two away from really feeling that build up to the figurative/literal explosion.
Overall it was enjoyable despite these flaws, but it failed to capitalize on a lot of genuine potential in my view, which makes it come off as a bit of a disappointment for me. The 6/10 is primarily off of the first half to two-thirds of the film, but I do think it's still worth a watch.

You’re right, we’re gonna attack him for not doing regime change harder
Rep. DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ, Florida Democrat, with an interesting statement:
"The capture of the brutal, illegitimate ruler of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who oppressed Venezuela's people is welcome news for my friends and neighbors who fled his violent, lawless, and disastrous rule. However, cutting off the head of a snake is fruitless if it just regrows. Venezuelans deserve the promise of democracy and the rule of law, not a state of endless violence and spiraling disorder. My hope is it offers a passage to true democracy and liberation. This action offers beleaguered Venezuelans a chance to seat their true, democratically elected president, Edmundo González. I'll demand answers as to why Congress and the American people were bypassed in this effort. The absence of congressional involvement prior to this action risks the continuation of the illegitimate Venezuelan regime."

Where did the time go?
Poem with the following lines:

Where did the time go?
I’m still trying to find it,
Spinning and spinning and I can’t quit,
I like to believe I go with the flow,
Adrift in a stream of life,
Baring all strife,
But as the rain turns to snow,
I wonder where the time has gone,
If I’m nothing but a con,
If there’s space for me to grow,
Or am I just to wilt?
Destroy all that I’ve built?

Where did the time go?
Has it abandoned me?
Spirited away and free?
Am I left here to know,
Everything I haven’t done?
All that hasn’t yet begun?
Please tell me the answer is no,
Let me reach out and grab it back,
Don’t leave me feeling like a hack,
Come back to life so that I can grow,
There’s happiness to be snatched,
Wounds to be patched,
Tell me, where did the time go?

#AcademicSky #PhDChat Wrapped up a grad class and got this feedback from the professor on my performance. So that's pretty fucking cool
"It was really great having you in class Cassie! You clearly knew not just the readings, but greater context for them. What most impressed me was your ability over the course of semester to increasingly (1) hold back from giving answers to classmates who did not know the answers (2) ability to combine that with really constructive questions and feedback to help classmates improve their work. I'm not sure how to phrase this exactly, but you were an absolutely critical cog in motivating class discussions, keeping them on point, and tying them to larger literatures. AND you were/are super positive and helpful in how you delivered feedback on peer work. I could learn a lot from you on that because I tend towards the negative! I'm looking forward to where you go in MA research and beyond."
