I'm a little annoyed that it seems like I'll have to take the red path pictured below rather than the blue path

What's wild is that the cited intersection is totally tame compared to hundreds of crosswalks across the city. Take for example, Fullerton and Spaulding. Four wide lanes of traffic, drivers traveling 40+ mph. When you're standing on the island, it feels like standing on the side of a highway.
a person stands on the pedestrian island at Fullerton and Spaulding wearing turquoise nursing scrubs scrubs and holding a cane. This is a screenshot of Google Street View from July 2018. The person's pose indicates that they are waiting for both lanes of traffic to stop so they can cross the south side of the street. A driver is visibly entering the crosswalk while the waits.

Chicago, I almost got flattened by cross traffic on my bike yesterday in the loop. It was an intersection with bike lights like the one pictured. However, in addition to the solid green bike light there was a flashing red bike light. What the fuck is solid green + flashing red supposed to mean?
a traffic light for bikes, that uses bike symbols instead of circles. In this picture, the green bike is illuminated, and there's a small sign underneath that says "🚲 USE BIKE SIGNAL"

Do any #CSS experts know how to create this Figma progressive blur effect in CSS? I tried to do the normal progressive blur technique where you use `mask-image: linear-gradient(...);` but the blur is then clipped by the bounds of the square pink element... :/ codepen.io/editor/cassi...
Screenshot of Figma. The canvas shows a toggle element that looks kinda like "[ # ON ]" where the "#" is a pink square, sharp on the left and blurry on the right. The Figma panel shows that the square has a layer blur effect that is set to "Progressive", start: 0, end: 10

As a pedestrian, would you feel safer navigating the intersection on the left, or the intersection on the right? I don't think bi-directional streets is any kind of solution when it comes to pedestrian safety and walkability.

A burned building has large fresh plywood panels attached to the side, maybe for structural support or for patching holes? The effect in black and white is high contrast and abstract geometry due to the interaction between the light plywood and dark burned wood surface.

I'm on a blocklist of "Transphobes who don't understand jokes" which is hilarious because I'm pretty sure the only way I'd be on this list is if my joke was misunderstood
A screenshot of Clearsky showing that I'm on a block list called "Transphobes who can't understand jokes" with this description: "this list was born on a post by Abgail Thorn where she called a peacock diva and assholes had a meltdown, since the peacocks with cool feathers are male and "diva" is a female-word. Fuck them."A screenshot of Abigail Thorn quoting her own post. In the original post, she posted a photo of a peacock saying "look at this diva". Many of the comments were saying that it can't be a diva because it's a male bird. She quoted herself and said "This post was part of a study by York University into whether being cishet damages your brain. Thank you to everyone who replied saying the peacock is male, we hope someday to find a cure for you." I replied to that post, shown in the screenshot, with a joke: "That BIRD is a MAN!!!!! 😠😠😠"

My Lyft driver last night had attached mirrors on the rear passenger doors for checking for cyclists. I have no idea if this is a good idea (it seems like it was maybe positioned poorly, and turning your head and looking is probably best) but I appreciate the gesture!

It’s better for people who *need* to drive when people who *don’t need* to drive aren’t driving
Nate Schweber Reporting from Manhattan

Vanessa Alves realized something was different this morning when she easily found parking on West 57th Street right in front of her business, Stop By Cafe. Alves, who has asthma and usually drives from her Upper West Side home, said she did not realize her E-ZPass had been charged $9. But she was fine with it.
