Speaker:

    Name: Andrew Hurley
Seminar Title: Restorative Justice in Education: Democratizing Schooling

Biography:

Andrew Hurley (He/Him) is a PhD student in the Education Policy and Leadership program at Boston College. He researches equity, access, and systemic change in schools, focusing on inclusive and reciprocal school-community partnerships. His interests stem from his work as a Restorative Justice Interventionist and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator in schools.
Abstract:

The talk discusses how schools function as spaces of both social reproduction and resistance, often marginalizing students through policies and practices. Restorative justice has emerged as a means to challenge traditional schooling methods related to discipline, social-emotional learning, and school-community partnerships. The seminar will include perspectives from a former restorative justice practitioner on the challenges and potential of centering restorative practices in education.
Additional Information:

A FREE seminar. More details at https://cassbi.gmu.edu/. Follow on LinkedIn and Bluesky.

A small portrait of Andrew Hurley is placed in the upper right corner. He is a young man with glasses and a beard, wearing a maroon Boston College sweatshirt, smiling against an outdoor background.
