I made Bratkartoffeln for dinner at my guest's request. Sliced cocktail potatoes thinly, boiled for 13 minutes then pan-fried in olive oil, salt, and bratkartoffel spice from the ludicrously extravagant spice shop. gewurzhaus.com.au/products/bra...

Parisian-style hot chocolate I made these by warming good quality milk with 85% cocoa dark chocolate from Aldi/Moser Roth, and adding pumpkin pie spice and a little bit of salt.

Miniature railway carriage from "Alison Tedesco Street Stories" exhibition, McLelland Sculpture Park and Gallery, Langwarrin, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia www.facebook.com/alisontedesc...

On a wooden pinth in an art gallery stands a miniature of a Melbourne train from the 1990s. It appears to be a Hitachi train from that era, and it has the green and gold stripes that were part of the "The Met" livery until 1998. Writing on the plinth reads "Please do not touch"

The detailed miniature stands surrounded by overgrowing bushes reaching up to the floor of the carriage. The side wall and end are covered in six different graffiti pieces. Behind the train we can also see a miniature of a huge billboard reading "Frankston", and showing beachgoers relaxing next to the water. Part of the sign is torn. The whole scene looks quite dilapidated.

We are beside a patch of lavender growing next to us. The plants are tall, with the flowers at the height of our head, or even a bit taller. The sky is blue with scattered clouds; it is a warm day.

We can only tell that we are on a suburban street by the gum tree and telegraph pole rising above and behind the patch. Otherwise we could be lost in the country, transported by the lavender's perfume to another world.

We look out over a large industrial park full of wide, flattish, cylindrical steel fuel storage tanks in rows and rows. Nearer us, however, is most of a smaller spherical tank, possibly once used to store LPG.

The spherical tank appears to have been made with curved sheets of steel welded together. Some of those sheets have been removed, so the cap of it and about half of the wall just above its equator are no longer attached.

Monument To A Segregationist This sculpture is by Australian sculptor Ken Scarlett. He had been a card-carrying member of the Communist Party of Australia in the 1950s, but left around the time of Kruschev's speech denouncing Stalinism in 1956.

Before us stands a bronze head on a granite plinth, placed among bushland, with narrow-trunked eucalyptus trees behind it. The head is about 60cm, or two feet tall. It is grotesque; not absurdly so, but certainly deliberately cruel and ugly. Empty, black eye sockets slant slightly downwards, and lips curl on our left-hand side into a sneer. The top of its head is bald.

The plinth holds a bronze plaque, on which is inscribed the title "Monument To A Segregationist"

Governor of the US State of Alabama in the 1960s George Wallace, who famously championed segregation during his career

We are standing under a gigantic metal gnome. That is, he is nine metres high, or roughly 27 feet. We come up to perhaps just above his knee. We look up at him and see his torso, head and face from below. He is in a bushland clearning, and there are eucalyptus trees behind him.

He wears breeches on his legs, and a tunic belted at the waist. The belt pushes up some of his belly fat, creating a muffin-top, and the smooth curve on his breast reflects more nearby trees. He is bearded and wears a thoughtful expression on his face. On his head is a Phrygian cap, as worn by Smurfs and, in ancient times, formerly enslaved people who had regained their freedom. He stands tall with his hands on his hips.

Spots on his fingers and on the hem of his tunic reflect flashes of sunlight, and the deep blue sky forms a lighter haze around the outline of his hat and shoulders.

We are standing on an outdoor platform of a 19th-century urban railway station. In front of us is a red brick, double-storey signalling box that is clearly disused. Graffiti tags and pieces cover the outside walls, including Melbourne's iconic Pam The Bird.

The box is framed by a metal gantry holding up the electric wires that power the trains, and behind it stands a modern tower block of around twenty stories, along with other tall buildings.

Waves Of Estrogen I was applying my estrogel just now and it landed in these cool shapes.

We can see a white person's forearm. On it are three pumps of Estrogel, an estrogem preparation for hormone therapy. Two of the pumps are in sharp focus, and they have landed in unusual shapes, like solid waves that curl over with a sharp, well-defined edge and then curve inside themselves to create a saddle shape.

We're standing on a pier that we cannot see, just above the shallow water of a beach with a gentle slope up to the shoreline. We are looking west at sunset, and the star in our sky is low and prominent. The sun has forced our camera to show everything in quite stark contrast - bright light against very dark features. The sunlight falls on the sea just in front of us, and we can see the details of tiny ripples. We can see Norfolk Island pine trees, typical of Australian beaches, stretched along the esplanade, and another row of them in the distance following it to the western half of Altona.

A film filter has been applied, it gives the photo a golden and black look, but a little subdued and washed out, with low contrast.

It's a bright day, a bit sunny. There are some clouds near us, but not overbearing. In the distance, however, a grey cloudbank threatens.

We are on the corner of an inner-urban road. A building stands on the corner of a side street on the other footpath. It looks like it was possibly once a pub or a corner store, as one corner of it on the corner of the streets is cut off flat, as if to accommodate an entrance door. Now, the bottom storey has been faced with concrete, with semi-transparent square glass bricks inserted to allow light in but stopping passers-by and random photographers from prying.

The second storey balcony has four thin pillars holding up three concrete arches. Light blue and mustard-coloured railings complete a vaguely Mediterranean impression. In the distance are cranes, and beyond the end of the side street we see a new tower block. A small white sedan drives past, and a street sign informs us of a car park with 310 spaces.

A sign on the side of the building, in Chinese and Vietnamese, tells us this is the base of "Trần Trung Accounting, Tax Filing and Finance Office". The Chinese translates as "Chen Hezhong Accounting Firm", and another sign on the corner tells us, in English that Trần Trung is a public accountant and registered tax agent.

Dinosaur Slide McNish Dinosaur Park Reserve, Court Street and Stony Creek Trail, Yarraville, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Land of the Yalukit-willam clan of the Bunurong tribe in the Kulin nation

There's a dinosaur in front of us. Its arms are raised in the air, and eggs scattered around the ground suggest she is ready to protect her genetic heritage with extreme prejudice. Fortunately for us, though, she appears to be made of fibreglass, plastic, wood panels and wicker.

The dinosaur is actually a slide in a children's playground. Her legs and feet, and arms, fingers and claws look like they are made of moulded fibreglass. Her belly and hips seem to be wood panelling, and her back and neck are wicker reinforced with metal. In her belly is a hatch open to the ground, with a net letting children clamber up inside her, to be digested. However, a slide made of plastic means they can escape, and will not be slowly digested over a thousand years.

The dinosaur stands under two dark shade sails, on a sandy surface. Concrete eggs are scattered near her. The photo has been edited to boost the colours so they look cartoonishly vivid, as if they were applied with an airbrush, and all sharp borders between areas of colour in the photo have been smoothed out. The photo thus looks as though reality is slightly shifting around us. It is still clearly recognisable as this world, but it has shifted maybe by a tenth of a dimension.
