Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline that ends in a
question mark can be answered by the word no." It is based on the assumption that if the publishers were confident that the answer was yes, they would have presented it as an assertion; by presenting it as a question, they are not accountable for whether it is correct or not.

Can we just work on perfecting the tools we built instead of cramming yet more imperfections into crumbling infrastructure?

It's been bothering me who (if anyone?) this actually looks like but Rickman is a very good one. I totally see it. Best I could come up with was Tim Blake Nelson

What are you talking about? This is classic Bob Dylan face.

I think an underrated catalyst for the increase in conspiracy-mindedness is the algorithmic currency associated with engagement that requires we pair news with an invitation for speculation
A photo of an Instagram post from Hot 97. The picture they post is of a young man with the headline “Julian Brown’s mother shares new updates on missing invention, claims her son is ‘safe.’” The caption reads “Julian Brown, a 21-year-old inventor from metro Atlanta who made headlines for turning plastic waste into fuel, vanished from the public eye after posting a series of alarming social media messages on 9 July 2025. Nearly three weeks later, his mother, Nia Brown, has broken the silence with a brief but significant update: Julian is ‘safe.’ Her statement, though reassuring, leaves many questions unanswered. Where is he? Why the secrecy? And what exactly is he being protected from? Thoughts? 👇👀”

My cats have a tiny stuffed mouse that I have literally never ever seen them play with but it just randomly appears in different places basically every day

If Poketo ever re-released their terrazzo notebooks I would buy like 5 in every color immediately. I made the very stupid mistake of starting my record journaling on the one I had and thanks to my obsession with continuity I fear the moment I finish this one and have to ruin the series.

You’ve been in a horrible accident. With your last bit of energy you call 911. Thankfully, just in time, the EMTs arrive. In the Space Jambulance.

I'm on ESPN's website watching replays of a game I missed. They have a clip of a key play at the end of the game. And because they so badly need me to watch more videos, they start pushing me to others before the clip I'm watching ends. ...except their prompts cover the play I'm trying to watch.

I can’t tell if it’s over-saturation, a deteriorating model, or my own misgivings about the ethics of it all, but the Studio Ghibli pictures are starting to look less Studio Ghibli and more children’s bible stories.

This "sold" for $28K but was listed by someone with 0 feedback or selling history and was purchased by someone with 0 feedback or buying history. I don't know all the ins, outs, and end-games of eBay scams, but dollars to donuts this was not a legitimate purchase. This was sold the same day at $500

Must-watch doc. Seeing people older than my parents talk about building social structures for the good of all people affected me emotionally way more than I anticipated.

1. Fanny & Alexander (1984) dir. Ingmar Bergman Okay, cheating a little bit on this one because my recommendation is the 6-part mini-series version and not the film version (though the film version is also very good!) but this is an unforgettable, genre-bending masterpiece from a genius.

2. Zone of Interest (2023) dir. Jonathan Glazer Doesnt show a single death and is the most harrowing Holocaust film I've ever seen. Reminders you that monsters walk among us, even if they don't even know it themselves.

3. Water Lilies (2007) dir. Céline Sciamma Why can I relate so well to a teen queer love story about French synchronized swimmers? Because Celine Sciamma captures what it means to be young, and that's universal.

4. Quantum Cowboys (2022) dir. Geoff Marslett A "live action" film that incorporates 12 different animation styles to tell an existentialist time travel story about cowboys. Like Tenet meets meets Waking Life meets Back to the Future 3.

5. Kagemusha (1980) dir. Akira Kurosawa It did not occur to me until I watched Kagemusha that I'd been watching Kurosawa exclusively in black and white. Then I saw this, and of course one of history's greatest filmmakers is exceptional at using color. Breathtaking visuals.

6. Fat Girl (2001) dir. Catherine Breillat A bleak coming of age story that challenges you to question its brutality. This is the world we built for ourselves. If we're content to live through it, can we argue that it feels like too much on screen?

7. Possession (1981) dir. Andrzej Żuławski One of those psychological horror films that puts your reality into a pot and turns it up by one degree with each passing moment, until it's unrecognizable.

8. Goodbye, 20th Century (1998) dir. Darko Mitrevski + Aleksander Popovski Complete mayhem. Total anarchy. A different take on a dystopia. Like putting Mad Max, El Topo, and a Kids in the Hall sketch in a blender.

9. Golem (1979) dir. Piotr Szulkin Maybe the most Kafka thing Kafka never wrote. A bleak but powerful dystopian vision with a protagonist trying to make sense of an inherently non-sensical world.

10. Stop-Zemlia (2021) dir. Kateryna Gornostai No a coming-of-age story, but a story about what it means to be in love as a teenager. Holds its characters with such love and empathy.
