It's raining today for the first time in months! This East Coaster is not used to Southern California's dryness yet, and might never be 😫 In honor of the rain, I shall curl up on the couch with some steaming coffee and a book. I shall do nothing "productive." Not a damn thing!

Middle school me is ecstatic right now!! (Adult me is, too!) @hollyblack.bsky.social is exactly as cool as one might expect—that is to say, she's SUPER cool. Though I wish I still had my original copy of Tithe to get signed, I got to meet one of my heroes!! How amazing is that? #LAConV

What if everyone had a roof and two meals? I'm about to find out at this "Future Economies" panel. I love the speculative part of speculative fiction!

A "magic & politics" panel just wrapped up—the panelists shared awesome, helpful insights about and suggestions for integrating the two. Gonna take these lessons home to strengthen my second draft!

I've been so wrapped up in attending panels and workshops and other events that I never shared that I'm at @laworldcon.bsky.social! What a great time. I'll post about the panels I attend today, I promise.

Sooo I did it! Finished draft 1 of this novel in <90 days. What a journey! I've learned so much about the story, the characters, the world, & where I want to take all of it. That's the point of a first draft, isn't it? Now to take a week off, enjoy #LAConV, and then start revisions in September!

Less than a month til #LAconV, less than a month to finish this draft! Had to take a break for a couple weeks, but I'm back at it and ready to finish strong. Wish me luck 🙏

NEW: A federal book banning bill has been introduced in the Senate. It's time to make our voices heard. Tell your Senators to REJECT pro-censorship legislation like S. 4925 that would limit the freedom to read! We need every advocate to speak out against censorship: action.ala.org/campaign/S4925

Put my first novel to bed this weekend. With three drafts done, I realized it wasn't fun anymore and felt the overwhelming need to move on (at least for now). So I started a new project today! I'm stoked and energized. Now I just need to figure out this whole "magic system" thing 😅

Though I think of my own novel as fantasy, it definitely falls under the climate fiction umbrella. For me, it's impossible NOT to insert my hope for a better future into my writing. Climate fiction is inevitable when our climate is in crisis. reactormag.com/coming-to-te... @mollytempleton.com
