Hi, everyone! I've been quiet for a while, so it's time to re-introduce myself. I'm the organiser for Alternative Wonders Studio, and it's time to reintroduce what we do! Our first visual novel was Demons of the Venta Quemada, a sort of gothic supernatural tale. Here's our cover on Itch!

I kinda went wild buying sapphic romances a couple days ago and bought four books by the same author without realising it. So, here, they are #arickaalexander. I just kept buying black girls in love in the South without looking at the author's name. #blackbooksky #sapphic #romance

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 14/02/2026

I may buy this book for the title alone. Nobody expects the Sapphic Inquisition!!

Convince me that this new lesbian romance, Shifting Gears by Jazz Forrester, isn't Nicole Coenen fan fic. :) Our MC Eleanor blows into rural Canada to meet "Sweet, smart, goofy mechanic Dani Cooper is about as laid-back as they come, all rumpled flannels and cheeky grins." I mean... those arms.

So, it turns out this isn't new but it is true that Ghibli has posted a bunch of stills from all their movies for personal use. I immediately went to one of my favourite movies of all time. When Marnie Was There

This seems very peaceful in #Crayontopia but... this #visualnovel is called Murder in Crayontopia. Shelby reveals the truth! Six weeks ago there was a "horrible incident". Murder!! And with that ominous back story, we take off into town! What will happen next? Only time will tell.

000

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 16/04/2025

Our MC in #MurderInCrayontopia asks the right questions. Can MC also just start creating life? Turns out... no. You have a process getting permission from the Crayontopia leader. Look at this cute Save menu! It turns out that the leader Ambrose is a god. Created Crayontopia from a blank page.

100

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 16/04/2025

The person who entered into the room in #MurderInCrayontopia created our MC! I assume using crayon. Is Shelby a crayon god?! Maybe. Whatever you draw in crayontopia becomes real, including living things. Can anyone create anything, or is it just Shelby the Crayon God? #visualnovel

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 16/04/2025

Starting #MurderInCrayontopia The MC floats through a sea of colour and wakes up in a warm colourful glow. Omg! Is Crayontopia an isekai?!?! Someone walks in and says, you did it! Did our MC come from another world or something???

100

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 16/04/2025

Okay, time to try out a little #MurderInCrayontopia Our opening title music is peaceful orchestral music, but also has a bit of melancholic and mysterious mood. It is a murder after all. Hitting Start #visualnovel

I haven't played yet but I love that the art is all in crayon. It went in the cart instantly.

It's that time again. Time to get the team together and see what we can do, this time for #JoseiJam I can spend a lot of time figuring out which of my 20 projects I want to do next. And then one will grab me and I cannot NOT do it. I need to make this story! #visualnovel

LI #4 Rainbows Unicorns and Cheese Grits Gyeong Cho, she/her, 25. Nick: Doc Hollywood. City girl somehow in this sleepy town in the middle of nowhere. She's not stuck up, though, and would be down for whatever... if anything ever happened. Do city girl and small town girl have anything in common?

010

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 08/04/2025

LI #3 for Rainbows Unicorns and Cheese Grits Yvonne Maria Bisonette, She/Her, 27. Yvonne knows what she wants and gets it. Stylish, intelligent, fierce -- and knows this about herself. Together in senior year, Yvonne wanted and got MC. Will they get back together when MC returns to town? #HotEx

LI #2 for Rainbows Unicorns and Cheese Grits Angel May Lamar. She/her, 46. Worked at Taylor Catfish as long as MC has been alive. MC has known her all her life but never REALLY known her. If that happens, their relationship will change forever. #agegap A reference: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHO_...

Exactly a year ago, I put aside a game project after sketching for months. One benefit of returning to it is I have over 100 pages of references, outlines, and more. I think the time has come again. Let us announce the start of: RAINBOWS UNICORNS AND CHEESE GRITS wlw #yuri VN Introduction to come

Update: I cannot make Lumi want to date everyone. When I indicated a brief romance with Clara, I was informed that reflective, introverted Lumi would not be jonesing for everyone he's met. Time to Load that save and think it all through! I might be able to pet that dog, but only one dog.

Text from game reads: You have already chosen Lumi to be smitten with Adrian. Given Lumi's introverted and deeply reflective nature, it is unlikely for him to develop strong romantic feelings for multiple individuals. Please select another option that aligns with the character's personality.

000

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 29/03/2025

I give in to my instincts and choose "unspoken attraction". I need to make Lumi an unmitigated bi disaster ... and cat detective.

100

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 29/03/2025

The boxes are revealed! I can choose from four relationship facts: 1) Intellectual comrades 2) Unspoken attraction 3) Intimidated 4) Chess Rivals And now I'm instantly frozen. I can only choose one! And I will want to choose "unspoken attraction" for every character if I can! I'm already saving.

100

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 29/03/2025

Next reveal! We get a quick intro to each person, and the game tells us our relationships will affect the game. It also becomes point-and-click. Click on a paw to learn more of each. I click Adrian the handsome fox and discover he was my intellectual debate partner. But Can I pet that fox?!

100

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 29/03/2025

We discover that Lumi left home to pursue justice. His parents are gone, and he now returns for a school reunion with complex feelings. Our next image shows six of his former classmates. I presume these will be our main characters. Will any be LIs? I bought this months ago and cannot remember.

100

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 29/03/2025

Oh! Each time I click or press space bar, another paragraph appears on the right. This image shows the first three bits. I like this cumulative way of presenting the story. It might work especially for stories like this where they are trying to write "densely", phrases like "memories woven in ink."

100

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 29/03/2025

We open with Lumi on a train. I immediately notice the different format than most VNs. It's not ADV (text at bottom), NVL (text across much of screen), or bubbles. Instead, text is to the right with a framed image. What's going to be in the bottom rectangles? I do like the Gear UI for this train.

Day 12 of #VNaDay. Trying something new for the Visual Novel a Day series. I'll open and play the start of the VN and post pics and thoughts as I go. Today's VN is: White Cat Town Mystery!! The title menu plays with this mix of jangly guitars, moody synths, and drum. Time to click "New Game".

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 18/03/2025

Day 11 of #VNaDay. This is really an RPG adventure, but it emphasises story choices and consequences with some cool panel style text presentation. #Wildermyth

000

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 15/03/2025

Day 10 of #VNaDay. Winds of Change is an adventure VN. "Lead The Rebellion, build your army, and shape the world with your choices. A story-heavy adventure game with multiple endings, romance options, and non-linear storytelling." 85% off right now if want to try. #visualnovel #VNsky

020

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 14/03/2025

Day 9 of #VNaDay. An adult yuri romance? hookup VN from the team that did Negligee. The MC is stuck in a time loop until she gets a successful date. 18+ so don't look up at work. #winterwonderland #visualnovel #yurisky

000

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 13/03/2025

Day 8 of #VNaDay is... Witchy Life Story! "You have two weeks to save the harvest festival! Tend your garden and collect plants for spells and rituals to help the villagers of Flora." Is wlw possible? I must know! #visualnovel #vnsky #yuri?

030

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 11/03/2025

Day 7 of #VNaDay, and it's #yuri time again! In Withering Flowers, "In a world of magic, Shira embarks on a journey to find a cure for her sick girlfriend, facing her enigmatic teacher and her fiery sister. She seeks answers and a chance to mend their bond after breaking up." #visualnovel #VNsky

010

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 10/03/2025

Day Six of #VNaDay. Wolf Tails! (Woohoo!) <-- to the tune of Duck Tales. ""Wolf Tails" is a visual novel where you take care of two wolf-girls. There's Mirar, who is running away from her duties to her pack, and Fuyu, a brash and loud-mouthed girl who is wary of human culture." #visualnovel #vnsky

000

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 08/03/2025

Day 5 of #VNaDay is not actually a VN. #WyldeFlowers is a life and farming sim. "Farm by day, and cast spells by night as you craft your cottagecore life and bond with your coven." But cosy, narrative, and sapphic potential is good enough for me! Anyone done this one?

000

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 08/03/2025

#4 #VNaDay. Yu-No: The Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World. Started as an eroge computer game in the 90s, has a manga and an anime. Supposedly deceased father, parallel worlds, romance paths, destruction of the world. What's the verdict on this one? #visualnovel #vnsky

000

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 07/03/2025

Day 3 of #VNaDay. "Yuri Dating Agency -a speed dating simulator for WLW. You're a girl who likes girls, walking into this Yuri dating agency to find yourself a date. Will you be able to win their hearts?" This will be the first of a theme. Opinions, yuri-readers? #visualnovel #yuri #yurisky #vnsky

000

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 06/03/2025

Day 2 of #VNaDay. Zipp's Cafe! A cafe located between the cities of animals and insects, "Make unusual recipes, get involved in shady dealings, ... while searching for love and revenge." Anyone done this one yet? #zippscafe #visualnovel #vnsky

000

Casey Autumn North @casefirefly.bsky.social · 05/03/2025

食用系少女 Food Girls. The first VN in #VNaDay has the scariest tag line!! "You can eat the girl." What?! It's tagged as cute and casual! No horror, no adult. I didn't notice this tag when buying. You run a food stall. I assumed I would be one of the girls, but maybe the girls are personified food?!

Currently reading a kinetic visual novel Lingua Fleur: Lily. Athletic Yiye and academic Yuyi become "close friends". It's very cute and quiet so far. Originally Chinese. Lily often refers to "close friends who are girls". Lingua Fleur... don't know why yet! #yuri #yurisky #visualnovel

A picture of the two main characters of Lingua Fleur: Lily standing together under an umbrella in the rain. Yiye has a big smil, Yuyi looks more pensive.

Have you ever seen a cover image for a game that was so good, so you, that you immediately wanted it? One for me was The Abandoned Planet. I liked this image so much I got the game despite not usually playing its game style or going for pixel art. What's one for you?

A Black woman in yellow retro-futuristic sci-fi outfit looks up to the sky on a seemingly abandoned planet.
