Some thoughts on what part of the brain chatbots use, and why they're exhausting: caseorganic.substack.com/p/the-worst-...
caseorganic.substack.com
The worst problem with Claude and ChatGPT isn’t the apocalypse. It’s how we communicate with them.
By design, chatbots are exhausting -- but our interaction with them can be better designed

“The most thought-provoking thing in our thought-provoking time is that we are still not thinking.” ― Martin Heidegger (1950s, with caveats)

The main difference between this time and now is you. When you want to get back to reading blogs, RSS feeds, and finish that tutorial instead of doomscrolling shorts, you have to get used to a slower internet. One where content is not infinite and doesn’t get updated every click.

The hand was designed, over several million years, to learn by touch. We have given it glass.
1196
Case @case.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
The touchscreen is a tool the body cannot learn. Every swipe, every tap, every pinch requires the eye to confirm what the finger is doing. The body cannot build a map of a surface that never changes. So the learning never finishes. The tool never disappears.

Case @case.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
The tool drops below conscious awareness and the person is freed to attend to something else, to the joint, the route, the argument.

Case @case.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
When the body learns a tool, the tool disappears. The carpenter stops thinking about the hammer. The driver stops thinking about the steering wheel. The reader stops thinking about the way letters are formed on the page and imagines the world the writer weaved.

Case @case.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Some tools the body learns. Some tools the body cannot learn. This is the difference between a car and a touchscreen.

Every centimeter of distance between the designer's hand and the material that they use is a tax paid by the person who has to live alongside the object.

Everything in the virtual world is made for your eyes And you feel like you have agency because you're able to move But that movement is stillness in disguise. You're moving nowhere

The same can definitely be said of tech corporations, which are supposed to serve us, not the other way around. What’s missing in our home tech is a sense of etiquette, a broad set of social norms and expectations that set a baseline of dignity and respect. caseorganic.substack.com/p/sit-siri

“Etiquette” might be a somewhat outdated term when it comes to human relationships. But our technology products are not people — they’re even nowhere close to deserving the same love we have for our pets. Sit, Siri! Designing Our Tech to Have Good Etiquette: open.substack.com/pub/caseorga...

The Contractor Special: Here's a house that's cute on the outside and completely soulless on the inside. Lowest-cost, lowest-quality items from Home Depot, paired with the bright-as-balls overhead grid lighting, make the inside of the house feel more like a cadaver prep room in a mortuary.
Cute blue tiny house at blue hour. Nice yellow window glow. Terrible atrocity of non-place, reduction of the human soul into splinters of flatness, forgetfulness of the humane.

When AI labs raise prices, big spending on AI could shift from a flex to a liability.
