I wouldn't normally post NSFW, but this Dessriel piece I commissioned from @lynxgriffin.bsky.social is just too good, I like it too much. (Asriel here is transfem and her name is Azalea; both characters are adults)

Azalea is resting her double-chinned face on her right paw, looking affectionately at Dess. Her left arm is hanging over the back of the couch. She's got a lot of blond body hair all over, including on her chest, arms, and legs, and her pubic hair reaches almost to her navel. Her navel is an outie, pierced with a Golden Flower attached. She's got a scar on her stomach like a C-section scar, left by the aforementioned uterus transplant.

Dess is an anthro based on reindeer.
They are laying on their back on the couch, their arms behind their their head resting partly on Azalea's thigh, and their legs going over the side of the couch. They're fat too.
They've got black, spiky hair (though it's already graying). Their fur is dark brown. They're wearing round glasses and have a septum ring in their red nose, as well as a few earrings. Their antlers are blue, and spiky like the Roaring Knight's. They're looking up at Azalea, also affectionately.
They've got top surgery scars on their chest, with barbell piercings in both nipples. They've got "tattoos" of a pattern of stars on their stomach and both arms, made up of lighter fur (created through freeze branding). They've got black body hair too, but only in the armpits and the pubic area. Their feet have hoof-like appendages in place of toes, as well as at the heels.

For what it's worth, TX State House actually has pretty fair maps, due to old Dixiecrat laws restricting county splitting in redistricting. TX State Senate is still gerrymandered to all hell, but if Democrats do well in the State House, they could flip it, maybe.

The median Dem voter's ideology's just "vaguely liberal" – they're OK w/ progressive politics, but to be progressive themselves they'd need to think about politics enough to have a more coherent ideology.

Also: when I say "Dems aren't hungry for progressives", I don't mean they averse to it. To me it seems like the median Dem voter likes both progressives like AOC/Mamdani, and centrists like Spanberger/Cuomo.

Setting aside her politics, twice she was seen as "The One" Dem nominee for president. The 1st time she lost the primaries to a guy noone had heard of before 2004, the 2nd time a self-described socialist gave her a run for her money. Maybe we just have to accept she's not good in competitive races?

I'm gonna be contrarian for the sake of it, but the best Republican is, in fact, better than the worst Democrat. Cuz the best Republican happens to be an actual individual (Phil Scott, VT Gov), whose record we can judge against "worst Dems". But I do agree with your actual point, just to be clear.

Is it constitutional to demote Roberts to associate justice? Supreme Court justices do serve "during good behavior", but the position of Chief Justice specifically is only mentioned in Article I, and the Constitution doesn't even require them to be on the Supreme Court (as absurd as that would be)

I think it could get messy, possibly even so messy they don't form any gov't and we get a snap election. But it's not worth the risk of them forming a gov't after all, so I do still hope democratic forces win.

Well, I imagine that the incumbent Republican president's gotten a lot more stuff passed with their larger Senate majority. Not to say that it's the worse timeline, but I always feel a bit cynical about the ultimate outcome of Hillary 2016. But maybe gerrymandering got banned in the Rucho case.

Sidenote: here are the flags of the nations in question, for anyone curious. The flag of China is the official, canon Atlas Altera design, while the flag of Chunghwa is a fanmade design by me.

Flag of the Empire of China (震旦帝國 Zhèndàn Dìguó) in the world of Atlas Altera.

It consists of the yīn yáng symbol surrounded by the Eighth Trigrams (八卦 bāguà), on a plain yellow background. The trigrams are arranged according to their corresponding compass points, but turned so that south is at the top, north is at the bottom, etc.

You might be familiar with the trigrams if you've seen the flag of South Korea, it's the same kind of deal, but there's all 8 possible variants here rather than just the select 4.

Flag of the Chunghwa People's Republic (中華民國 Zhōnghuá Mínguó), as it exists in the universe of the above map (which is an AU of Atlas Altera, and not canon).

It consists of the Blue Sky with a White Sun symbol (a twelve-rayed white sun inside a blue circle) on a plain red background.

If you recognize this sun from the symbols of the OTL Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Kuomintang, that's not a coincidence.

I mean, luckily enough, if you follow the money you will see the AI bubble has already popped, we're just waiting for the shockwave. The subprime mortgage bubble popped in 2006, yet the crisis only began in 2008. Hopefully we don't have to wait as long, but an "AI winter" is now inevitable.
