Sweet little A slept all the way through her newborn photoshoot and even had a little smile towards the end! #newborn #newbornphotoshoot #newbornphotographer #monmouthshire #newportwales #babyphotos #newbornlife #expectingababy #pregnant #babyphotographer #fourthtrimester #pregnancy #maternity

Semi-close-up photo of a newborn baby girl lying tummy-down asleep on a small wooden bed. She's wearing a finely knit beige romper with wooden buttons down the back and a pixie bonnet with long ties. Her hand is tucked under her cheek and she has a little smile.

Little chap E, 10 days new...so sleepy, snug, and cute! His mum and dad chose this gorgeous vibrant teal for their newborn photoshoot, and he really rocks it! #newborn #baby #babyphotos #newbornphotoshoot #babyboy #teal #sleepingbaby #expectingababy #pregnant #fourthtrimester #newbornlife

Why do we wrap newborns? It mimics the feeling they had in the womb, when they were held snugly but could still push out with their arms and legs. #newborn #baby #photographer #newportwales #monmouthshire #newbornphotoshoot #expectingababy #pregnant #black&white #portraitphotography #portrait

Black and white photo of a newborn baby girl wearing a fine knitted bonnet and swaddled in a light, stretchy fabric. She is asleep and lying on her back; the photo is taken from above but on an angle, so that you see the top of her head and the whole of her face, looking down her nose. Her hands are visible, just under her chin. The light is angled down across the baby from the top right corner of the frame.

A backlit portrait of a newborn baby...baby is swaddled in grey lace fabric so that just one hand and her head are showing. She is lying on her back, lengthwise across the frame, supported underneath by her parents' hands - her father's hands are under her head and shoulders on the left side of the frame and her mother's hands are on the right. There is a silver chain bracelet on the mum's wrist that's closes to the camera. Only the forearms of each parent are visible. The whole effect is that the baby is being held in the air by both parents.

Sleeping newborn baby girl wrapped in a stretchy pink fabric across her body so that her hands are showing (they are clasped together. She is wearing a delicate flower headband and lying on her back on a knitted raspberry-pink blanket in a square-shaped basket. Her head is in one of the four corners of the basket in the middle of the frame, and the photo is composed so that bottom of the frame cuts off the basket just below the two middle corners of the basket. The floor is a mottle dusky rose pink. The photo is shot from a birdseye view so the whole of the baby's face is visible.

It's not just a photo. It's love, life, the start of a new chapter. It's transformation...becoming parents, or growing a family. It's a whole new world. It's not just a photo. It's a memory. Don't let it go. #newbornphotographer #babyphotographer #monmouthshire #newportwales #photography #baby

Newborns, babies and families is what I photograph for my job. In my own time, I like to create scenes from my imagination, like this one... #photography #fineart #photographyasart #artphotography #romantasy #fae #fantasy #musicphotography #music #musician #violin #pink #ethereal #storytelling

A photograph of a young woman with pointed elf ears, wearing a beaded blush pink gown with fine halter neck straps and with her blonde hair braided back. She is seated in a bower constructed of fine pale pink, ivory and white drapes that seem to be wafting in a gentle breeze. She is playing a pale pink violin and is leaning into the music with her eyes closed. There is a long vine of ivy winding around from the head of the violin, around the arm supporting the instrument, down to her lap and around her waist. The whole photo has a light texture over it that gives it a painterly, slightly mystic feel.

"What if my baby won't sleep?" If your baby insists on being awake for part of their shoot, we'll capture them awake too! Little J had a good think about staying up but dropped off quickly once he was snug. Which do you prefer - awake or asleep? #newbornphotoshoot #photography #babiesofbluesky

Beautiful tiny C, in sweet gentle pinks and creams...such a pretty set! #newbornphotoshoot #newborn #pregnancy #monmouthshire #southwalesphotographer #newbornphotographer #babyphotographer #fourthtrimester #expectingababy #photographyasart #duein2025 #babyphotos #baby #studiophotographer

Newborn baby girl wrapped in a pale pink stretchy fabric so her hands and feet are showing. She is lying on her back on a tiny white wooden bed with a chunky knitted cream blanket and a fine knit cream pillow, plus a pale dusky pink piece of fabric draped over the end of the bed and onto the floor. The floor is a gentle mottled cream and pink. The baby is also wearing a delicate headband of fine yarn and a single small pink flower. The view is from overhead, looking down on the baby on the bed.

Painterly-style photograph of a newborn baby in a beige knitted romper and sleepy hat lying tummy-down and sleeping on a dark wooden bed with a light beige blanket over him. To camera right at the head of the bed there is a little wooden table with an old-fashioned red alarm clock telling the time as 12:40, and at the foot of the bed (camera left) is a small rustic wooden suitcase-style trunk. The light is very delicately brushing over the baby's face rather than lighting the whole scene brightly.

Mum wanted neutrals and greens for little A's newborn session...I think it's safe to say that those colours were perfect for him! #newbornphotographer #monmouthshire #expectingababy

A newborn baby boy lying on an olive green background and wearing a beige knitted romper and sleepy hat. He is lying on his back side-on to the camera with his head (to the right) turned towards the camera and his feet crossed at the ankle. The hand closest to the camera is just touching his bent-up knee and his other hand is resting on his tummy.

Beautiful little A. #newbornphotographer #monmouthshire #babyboy #pregnant

Closeup portrait of a sleeping newborn baby bay, wrapped in a fine chocolate-brown blanket. The photo shows the baby's face, slightly turned away from the camera, and his hands peeking out from the top of the wrapped blanket. The light is coming across the baby's face so that the side closest to the camera is in shadow.

Halfway up a hill in the middle of Scotland, I discovered this beautiful little scene. #photography #landscape #water #aberfeldy #Scotland #art #artphotography #photographyasart #landscapephotography #waterfall #blackandwhite #monochrome #falls #chasingthelight

Black and white photo of water flowing downhill over rocks. The rocks are in a step-like formation, from high up in the top left corner down to the bottom right. In the foreground bottom left quarter the water is flowing vertically in very narrow streams that resemble fine needles, whilst through the middle diagonal the flow is wider. The shutter speed used was long, so the water appears very soft rather than in freeze-frame. The top right corner of the frame is filled with foliage. The overall atmosphere is dark and moody but calm.

I'm lucky enough to have been to a number of breathtaking places. Here's one of them. Have a great weekend, BlueSkyers. #landscape #landscapephotography #landscapephotographer #art #artphotography #photographyasart #colours #mountains #snow #sea #sky #volcanic #beach #photographer #wanderer #travel

The sun is starting to rise over the Vatnerhorn in Iceland. The photo shows a black volcanic sandy beach in the foreground with tussocks of grass just picked out by the early light. Dominant in the left hand side above the beach is the Vatnerhorn - a rugged dark mountain with a jagged summit, with pockets of snow in its crevices. Below the Vatnerhorn to the right is the sea, milky and smooth through the long camera exposure. Just above the sea in the far distance are a low range of snow-covered mountains, miniscule in comparison to the Vatnerhorn but only because of the distance. The sky is purple, blue, and pink with the early morning sun which is not yet visible, with thin high clouds creating a softened texture.

One of my favourite art pieces from a couple of years ago (yes, it's a photograph 🙂). #art #artphotography #photographyasart #fineartphotography #horse #equine #grey #animals #equestrian #photography #photographer #chasingthelight #writingwithlight #light #animalphotographer #painterlyphotography

A photograph of a horse (head, shoulders and forelegs to just below the knee) that has been edited to look like a painting. The horse is a pale grey and its head is bowed and turned slightly towards the camera, so you can see the side and top of its head. The background is a wash of grey watercolour and marbling with a hint of yellow. There is a texture akin to art paper over the whole image.

Happy Tuesday, BlueSkyers. Hope you've got a happy place to go to, even if it's just in your head. Here's one of mine. #landscape #landscapephotography #photography #photographer #art #artphotography #water #slowmo #waterfalls #blue #snow #rocky #peace #calm #happyplace #chasingthelight #light

Landscape orientation photo of two waterfalls over a curve of rock captured in slow motion so that the water is falling smoothly into a grey-blue pool. It's winter, and there are small clusters of snow on the bank. The edge of the pool is curved, following the line of the rock over which the waterfalls are flowing - the line of rock follows from the top right hand corner to halfway down the left hand vertical of the frame, and the pool occupies the bottom left quarter of the frame. In the bottom right quarter is a large rock over which more water is flowing. Above the curve of rock is rugged hillside moving steeply and irregularly up towards the top left...the landscape is part rock, part grass, part bracken, and there are pockets of snow picking out rivulets and crevices. The light is quiet flat with little shadow, and the feeling is of early morning cold winter.

Cary Smart Photography @carysmartphoto.bsky.social · 07/04/2025

It's grim out there. I hope wherever you are that there is a light for you to turn towards. #photography #art #photographer #landscape #landscapephotography #blackandwhite #art #photographyasart #artphotography #naturephotography #nature #monochrome #trees #light #chasingthelight #writingwithlight

A black and white portrait orientated image of a mature coniferous forest. The trees are tall and thick on both sides of the image but in the middle the floor is covered in thick bracken and fern. Sunlight is just managing to penetrate the canopy and is creating a vertical line of light in the centre of the image that follows down the line of trees and along the ferns to create a gentle pool of light in the centre of the frame, highlighting the central ferns.

Today is such a beautiful day...here's another beautiful day just in case the weather where you are is miserable. #photographer #photography #landscape #landscapephotography #art #artphotography #photographyasart #green #water #scotland #streams #trees

The view up a stream running over rocks through a woodland glade. There are two small falls in the foreground camera right, three smaller falls in the midground off towards camera left, leading back to one small falls slightly off-centre to camera right in the background. The ground rises up on the banks on each side and both sides are heavily wooded. There's no sky to be seen because the leaf canopy is dense and creates a beautiful green layer, though there is a small breakthrough of light right at the top centre of the frame. A few beams of light have penetrated the canopy and form little glows on the rocks and water. The photograph was taken on a slow shutter speed, so the water has been captured flowing rather than as frozen movement.

A no-people shot today, with a background created digitally by me using the colours of the violin (yes, it's a pink violin!). #art #photographyasart #artphotography #fineartphotography #musicphotography #noai #aiisnotart #photography #violin #music

A photograph of a pink violin standing upright with no support. It's lit from behind so the outline is picked out, with a little light falling in the centre just above the bridge and on the scroll. The background is mostly black with an arc in the middle that consists of the colour of the violin and the bridge, and an inverted arc at the top of the frame just above the scroll that consists of the main and darker colours of the violin (i.e. the colour of the violin where the light hits it, and the colour where it's in shadow).

Dancing into the weekend like... #art #photography #fineartphotography #dancephotography #blackandwhitephotography #dance #studiophotography #creativeportraiture

A black and white photo of a ballet dancer. She is wearing a dark leotard and long sheer dark practice skirt. She is en pointe on her right leg with her left leg extended straight out to the side on camera right; her arms are softly extended out to the side camera left, with her head leaning slightly camera left, looking down the line of her arm. She is positioned just off centre in the frame, so she fills the right hand side of the frame. Her skirt is swished out to the side on camera left to create a curve and movement. The light is subtle and coming in from camera left, lighting her face, arms, and the folds of her skirt as it skims over her.

Newborn baby boy in a knitted green suit with light brown wooden buttons down the front. He's lying asleep in a wooden heart-shaped bowl with a chunky green knitted blanket inside it, and a long green linen scarf draped over the bowl (under the baby) and over the edges, making a diagonal shape across the image. The photo is taken from a birds-eye view but slightly tilted, so the shape of the scarf, bowl and baby takes the eye from the bottom left corner to the top right.
