Not only are these cuts damaging for UK science, they make no financial sense. We pay the CERN subscription to access amazing facilities like the LHC. Cutting funding for the experiments reduces the science we get out for each £ invested. It’s like building a railway line but not funding the trains.

BASE experiment at CERN succeeds in transporting antimatter The experiment successfully transported a trap filled with antiprotons across CERN’s main site, a remarkable first step towards delivering antimatter to other European laboratories. Find out more: home.cern/news/press-r...

Seriously bleak news, especially for hadron physics (also the EIC is affected). Unfortunately, I expect this only to be among the first of many sizable cuts to fundamental physics in the next years, due to desperate attempts to keep late-stage capitalism alive. physicsworld.com/a/cern-upgra...

CERN upgrade to LHCb experiment threatened by UK funding cuts – Physics World
Upgrade to the UK-led project is unlikely to go ahead if UK funding cuts are not reversed

Paper day! With Gael Finauri we computed pQCD corrections to observables in inclusive B->Xc l nu decays beyond the Standard Model. This helps looking for New Physics in measurements made at B-factories. Plus, our closed-form expressions should make pheno analysis easier! arxiv.org/abs/2601.16129

One-Loop QCD Corrections to $\bar{B}\to X_c \ell \barν_\ell$ in and Beyond the Standard Model
We compute one-loop QCD corrections to the triple differential width of the inclusive decay $\bar{B} \to X_c \ell \barν_\ell$ including contributions from all relevant dimension-six operators in the W...

Today LHCb presented a new measurement of the decay of a B meson into a K* and a μ+ μ- pair Previous results disagreed with the Standard Model prediction for the branching fraction and angular distribution The new measurement has almost twice as much data and still disagrees! 🧵1/6

It looks like the only difference with 2024 is that data taking started later in the year, do you know why that is?

New paper is out! With G. Finauri, P. Gambino, M. Jung and S. Mächler we performed a first-of-its-kind test of New Physics in inclusive B->Xclv decays. This work is crucial to understand whether or not the Vcb puzzle originates from beyond the Standard Model effects! arxiv.org/abs/2507.22123

New Physics in inclusive semileptonic $B$ decays
We study inclusive semileptonic $\bar{B}\to X_c \ell \barν$ decays ($\ell = e,μ$) in the presence of generic physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) that is heavy compared to the $b$-quark mass. Its e...
