Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 22/09/2026And now I've got a little rudimentary victory screen built out! Things are really starting to come together 😌 Even came up with a nice little spin on the sphere grid system for FFX for my leveling system, but I guess that's not shown here lol #godot #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #crpg #trpg #rpg 090
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 20/09/2026No wonder I’m making the game I’m making 😂 lotsa RPGs on this list #my9games my9games.net/en 111
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 12/09/2026I swear godot UI is a bit like black magic Anyway, I got a little turn order display mocked up! Even got some nice little animations up and running #godot #gamedev #indiedev #solodev 1142
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 12/09/2026I found JK Rowlings most hated function in godot Anyway, #transrights are human rights 100
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 05/09/2026And now we've got proper turn based combat ready to go! Everything's sorta mocked up of course, so I've still got a ways to go, but it is what it is lol (please ignore that the enemies aren't doing anything yet lol) #godot #indiedev #solodev #gamedev #crpg #turnbased 160
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 04/09/2026What's hilarious is, I was born and raised in OKC, took quite a few trips to Texas, and NM is where my mom always wanted to move to lol 000
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Math is hard. Menus are harder. Got an actual menu built out and scrollable (sorta). Now to just make those commands actually do something lol Bonus points if you get the spell names references 👀 #gamedev #solodev #indiedev #godot #crpg #buildinpublic 290
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 31/08/2026And the best part of the "command menu" is it's just a custom container you can wrap around any control 😌 It is both side and viewport edge aware, based on a custom bounding box component as the target. Also space aware based on the container itself! #godot #indiedev #gamedev #buildinpublic #crpg 2111
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 31/08/2026First up, a menu! I love how #seaofstars and #chronotrigger do their command menus, so I'm going to try and recreate it. I love #godot, but man is it difficult to get controls placed relative to the viewport 😅 #indiedev #gamedev #buildinpublic #crpg 1121
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 29/08/2026I may be slow with prototyping, but the "gray box" prototype is slowly taking shape 😂 Quest system? Check Inventory? Check Save System? Check Scene switching? Check Up next, combat #gamedev #indiedev #godot #rpg #crpg 1172
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Alright I guess lol Been learning a lot about interactions, scene transitions, bridges and bits of UI 120
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Finally got a pic of all of mine When did I become a collector of handheld gaming devices? 😅 110
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 09/08/2026I’m in Amsterdam for the week and to start it off we went to the #NEMO Science museum They have a super cool game history exhibit and this really cool “build your own platformer” exhibit where you literally build your own platformer with a peg board! #gamedev 052
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 08/08/2026And a fully implemented notification system in game 😌 #godot #indiedev #gamedev #rpg 060
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 08/08/2026And the inspiration, from Final Fantasy XVI 100
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 08/08/2026I had the desire to make a little scrolling notification box for #godot for the RPG I'm making. I think it turned out pretty nice 😁 And the experiment code for it here: gist.github.com/CarsonMcKins... Very rough, obviously, and missing pieces, but it works! 140
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 29/07/2026This is basically how I was going to do this for my own tactical RPG I was thinking up! The colorful tiles with dots are the terrain map. Those values are read into an AStarGrid2D instance at runtime, and all pathfinding is done based off that. 120
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 07/01/2026Did something similar a few months ago to a GBA and couldn’t be happier with it! 4224
Carson McKinstry @carsonmckinstry.bsky.social · 23/12/2025So I’ve been working on a TRPG the last few months. Needs a lot more work, but it definitely starting feels like a real game now Shoutout to otterisk.itch.io for the amazing base unit sprites I’m using here! #godot #trpg #indiedev #solodev 071
