Kudos to Dean Karlan and his team for their valiant efforts to improve the cost-effectiveness of foreign aid. We'll find a way to continue this important work together.

Why Dean Karlan, chief economist of USAID, resigned on Tuesday

He was hired in 2022 so the aid agency could get 'more bang for our buck' with its projects. He tried to reach out to help in the rebuilding of the agency. On Tuesday he tendered his resignation.

Join us for our BITSS annual meeting in Berkeley next week! I'm going to talk about evidence aggregation on a panel about open science and policy. With mistrust in science at an all-time high, research credibility couldn't be more a important topic for discussion right now. @ucbitss.bsky.social
