There is one thing uniting California Democrats across the perceived political spectrum, and it’s that Prop 40 is a poorly conceived, shoddily written landmine of loopholes and ambiguous language ripe for exploitation. From Katie Porter. katieporteroc.substack.com/p/on-taxing-...

Prop 40 is NO

Hi. If your state does *not* have a top marginal tax rate of 14.4% (which includes a 1.1% additional yearly income tax on everyone who earns over $1 million and goes specifically to fund healthcare and education), your opinion on California’s Proposition 40 is irrelevant.

Hey, remember last year when the US Marines broke protocol and fired live ammunition over the I-5 freeway, striking the VP’s motorcade? Yeah, he knows where San Diego is. 😑 calmatters.org/politics/202...

California lawmakers are demanding answers after a live fire event over Camp Pendleton Saturday led to a misfire that rained shrapnel on I-5.

Wait a minute. Did Trump just tell an audience in Nebraska that Iran could “take out San Diego,” the largest military city on the West Coast? Does the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps wanna weight in? Maybe @governor.ca.gov?

So, let me get this straight: Gavin Newsom interviewing Steve Bannon for his podcast is not OK. BUT… Bernie Sanders joining political forces with Steve Bannon is OK. The logic of the Left, man. It’s almost like it’s nonexistent. 🙃

CarrieOh @carrieoh.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Why is Bernie Sanders lecturing Californians about taxing the rich when his state‘s top marginal tax rate is 8.75%? As someone who earns over $1 million a year, he’d be subject to at least a 13.3% annual income tax rate if he were a resident of California. 🙃

It’s well past time disclosure laws for social media align with disclosure laws for print and broadcast, and this is a huge move in the right direction. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

When did it become acceptable to shit on the largest *majority minority* state in the country? Imagine saying something like “Nobody wants two Midwesterners running the country.” Do you see how stupid and prejudiced that sounds? cc: @sarapequeno.bsky.social As the kids say, cringe AF. 😏

Appearing deferential? FAUX deference? You’ve got to be joking. Newsom has a history of backing out when more qualified candidates enter a race. This *checks notes* San Francisco newspaper remembers 2010 when he backed out of the gubernatorial race after Jerry Brown entered, right?

Nope, just someone who can read and doesn’t form an opinion based solely on pathos.

CarrieOh @carrieoh.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
He means it, too. He has a history of putting party before ego and stepping aside when more qualified people enter the race. See: Jerry Brown and the 2010 gubernatorial race.

Why would the most progressive governor in the country not be viable? Or, do you buy into the irrational prejudice the rest of this country has for California? And, you’re welcome. One would think that as a Californian you would be aware that he’s never run for president before.
110
CarrieOh @carrieoh.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Gavin Newsom has never run for president. That’s pretty fresh. Just say you hate Californians. It would be more honest.

CarrieOh @carrieoh.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
When Gavin Newsom says that he wouldn’t run if Kamala Harris does, he means it. Just ask Jerry Brown.

tl;dr - let us break U.S. antitrust laws, define the nature of AI regulations, and dictate foreign policy since legislators are dummies and we know everything. Basically. And, too many of you are falling for the hamfisted appeal to pathos. Stop it.

Steve Hilton (an English white man) made an AI ad where his opponent, Xavier Becerra (a Mexican-American son of immigrants), is in a box being sold at an auction. This racism has been made possible by Tom Steyer’s racist dog whistle attack ads that received zero pushback from “progressives.”

CarrieOh @carrieoh.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Also, dismissing Californians as unlectable, though California is home to 23 million registered voters and the largest majority minority state in the country, really makes you look out of touch and a bit... suspect.

CarrieOh @carrieoh.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
If you ever feel compelled to think to yourself (or say out loud, for that matter) something like “this country will never vote for a California Democrat for president,“ I want you to change out California with “southerner“ or “Midwesterner,” and then ask yourself how fucking stupid that sounds.

You know you’ve made an impact on the world when everyone from the MLB to Webster’s Dictionary to (the official page for) Dr. Seuss to musicians of all genres and politicians of all persuasions honor your passing. How humbling it is to have shared this brief reality with such an incredible human.

My favorite part of traveling is the now common standoff between airlines making 20 announcements begging stubborn passengers to volunteer to check their bags at the gate with little to no success, leading to inevitable delays in boarding. Bag checked life is the best life.

I know. It was an update on California’s Automatic Renewal Law (CARL) which passed in 2010 and was made stricter in 2018. Anything the FTC did in 2024, or Mamdani is doing today was directly inspired by CARL, down to using the same legal structures.

The FTC rule implemented under Lina Khan’s chairship was directly inspired by, and copied the legal structure of, California’s Automatic Renewal Law which passed in 2010, was updated in 2018, and made stricter by AB 2863 in 2024. You indicated it’s important to give credit where it’s due, so I am.

Aside from being vehemently pro-gun, he’s not even close to being libertarian. He’s anti-gay and would love the government all up in our business to make sure women don’t have bodily autonomy.

CarrieOh @carrieoh.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
That particular FTC rule was inspired by California’s strict Automatic Renewal Law, which passed in 2018 — three years before Lina Khan was chair of the agency. Once again, California leads the way.

The FTC’s federal "click-to-cancel" rule was directly inspired by California’s strict Automatic Renewal Law, which passed in 2018.

Because they generally don’t follow any news outside of their own filter bubbles and/or New York City. Wait until they find out California not only passed a click-to-cancel law (AB2863) two years ago, but it was signed into law by Governor Newsom then implemented last summer. 🙃

CarrieOh @carrieoh.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
But you’re not the first city in the nation to implement a click-to/cancel law? The whole state of California passed a click-to-cancel law two years ago, which was implemented in 2025. Generally, our cities have to follow state law. 🙃

CarrieOh @carrieoh.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
Glad to see he’s following California’s lead! California passed a click-to-cancel law two years ago and implemented it last year. Also, the FTC under the Biden administration implemented a similar rule in 2024 which has since been undone by the Trump administration.
