This week, I've been sealed up in a soundproof room (OK, with water and snacks and friendly voices over the headphones) while recording the audiobook of Leadership Intelligence. So grateful to the makers of Throat Coat tea, Ethan, Mike, Max, and everyone who's making it happen.

Managers often hope for clarity without quite asking for it. Your team can’t optimize for a system you haven’t explained. That’s the idea behind Fix-Flex: be clear about what’s fixed, then give people room to decide how. What are you not stating clearly? #leadershipintelligence

Smart people are good at spotting patterns, which can make them worse at giving feedback that sticks. “You always...” and “I think it’s because...” can make it too easy to leap to conclusions. Instead: get more specific about what you’ve noticed, using my Factual Feedback model.

So grateful to Jon Haidt for his support of my new book, Leadership Intelligence (coming Sept 8)! I have loved guest lecturing on his MBA course over the last few years, and my discussions with the future leaders in his class enriched my thinking enormously. The book is better and stronger for it.

Just finished reading Ethan Kross's new book, Shift, on how to manage your emotions effectively. It's great - readable, practical, comprehensive, human. I've drawn on his work a lot over the years, and if you have ever enjoyed my writing about resilience I'm sure you'll love this.

About 100 sheep follow a runner closely behind them on the trails in Central France. #runner #sheep
Runners are no strangers to animal encounters while out running on the trails. Sometimes animals even find their way into races. Sometimes it can even be dangerous.Thankfully, nothing baaa-d happened. Artist Eleanor Scholz came across the runner—and about 100 new friends—while hiking in central France, near Puy de Dôme. According to Sheep 101, sheep instinctually gravitate toward flocking behavior. “They will run from what frightens them and band together in large groups for protection. This is the only protection they have from predators. There is safety in numbers.”
