And we did! The NWT’s new permanent time standard, known as Northwest Territories Time (UTC-06:00), will be observed year-round. November 1, 2026, when clocks would normally be turned back by one hour, no time change will occur in the NWT. We now share a common time with Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Effective today, June 29, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., the City of Yellowknife has implemented a fire ban due to ongoing hot, dry conditions. The fire ban prohibits all open-air burning within city limits, including the use of approved fire pits, and will remain in effect until further notice.
