This morning’s idea made real. Using scraps from other projects to turn into a sort of #ScrapPot #MachineEmbroidery The #organza is trimmed using a soldering iron. I will sit with it for a bit before adding some embellishments.
Cylinder of layered fabrics in light and dark blue and a sandy pale beige hopefully resembling a shoreline Flat rectangle of slightly wonky layered fabrics in light and dark blue and a sandy pale beige hopefully resembling a shoreline The tip of a soldering burns though the blue polyester organza cutting it cleanly

Sunday morning messing about with fabric scraps and threads with good coffee and singing along to #DeaconBlue Perfect.
A somewhat chaotic messy table filled with fabric scraps, threads and other haberdashery around a cylinder of overlayed textiles in blues and golds that will hopefully turn into a little fabric pot

Still playing with the idea of Portuguese man o wars inspired by the ones I saw last month. Can you guess what I used for the buoyant bag at the top which helps it float? #Embroidery #WorkInProgress #TextileArt

I’ve selected my favourite of the #watercolour sketches of Portuguese man o wars I did a few weeks ago and printed it out onto fabric (using my inkjet printer) and plan to add some #handembroidery for sparkle and movement. But I do quite like I it as it is tbh!

First visit trudging up Thingvellir in the cold, pouring rain. I’ve had better weather and equally bad weather on subsequent visits.
A path leads into the distance between rocky outcrops. People in raincoats with the hoods up walk ahead. The excursion rep holds a bat with a number on by her leg. Her hood is up she is also soaking, she has to wait for the stragglers.

Doing an update of my website this week (it needs it) and have realised that the reason one particular draft blog makes no sesnse is because its two versions badly squished together. Sigh. I've updated the projects page though, so that's nice.

Great Waters. Sir Alister Hardy. A window into a different world, in many ways. Wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated. And responsible for my Continuous Plankton Recorder obsession

Someone contacted me via my website today about my work as they’d seen me mentioned in the latest Wetherspoons Magazine! And indeed I do get a name check (right at the end).
Part of a multipage article from the Wetherspoon Magazine about the Whalebone Pub in Downham Market. There is a poor definition picture of my textile piece that they commissioned and I get a name check right at the end.

Having seen my first Portuguese man o war jelly in the wild last month it’s inspired me to make something in #textile #embroidery. This face mask has been floating about for years and the fabric looks perfect for the insides of the bell. Lovely fabric from @lintontweeds

Yes! I pretty much accidentally saw it last year (excursion from a cruise port stop), taught myself the stitches before I went & made a Bayeux stitch embroidery of my whole trip, partly sewn on the voyage (currently just finishing another Bayeux inspired embroidery from my recent eclipse cruise)

My #Eclipse cruise #Embroidery is coming on slowly (#HandEmbroidery takes soooooooo long). #BayeuxStitch encourages blocky bold shapes so it’s heavy on #fortifications. A star fort, 2 fortified islands and a Roman Lighthouse. WWII bunker and a couple of cathedrals to go. And finishing the ship!
The Tilbury star fort embroidered in Bayeux stitch on a map of England near the poster of Tilbury on the Thames The fortified island at Concarneau in France. In a map of France. Unfortunately the island does look a bit like a willy. La Coruna in Spain. Another fortified island that loom a bit like Lisa Simpson at one end. And the awesome tower of Hercules a still working lighthouse originally built by the romans Not quite finished this embroidery of the cruise ship Ambience is missing some details, life boats and outline.

Sailing from Santander to La Coruna but haven’t been up on deck much because it’s too hot and too “sail away party”. But on my two brief excursions I’ve seen a couple of firsts for me, Portuguese man’o’war and some Cuviers beaked whales (adult and juvenile). Woohoo!
