Meme decay. This one started out mocking people who seek to over complicate things, but now just says “thinking about problems is wrong”.

Bell curve meme, this one saying that mid-level devs incorrectly worry about business priorities, whereas the extremes of the curve just write code. Which would be good if true. Of course it’s not, because the biggest difficulty is knowing what to build. The highly experienced dev might get an intuition for it without having to do the tedious bits hinted at by the mid-level, like interviewing stakeholders and risk assessment, though most likely that’s because they have the existing relationships and domain understanding.

Shame there isn’t a link to the research in the article, unless I missed it. I’d love to know more about this paragraph - even just what type of average this is!

The Tory membership isn't quite as old as many seem to think. The average member is
60 - not that much older than Labour members (54) and on a par with Lib Dem and Reform members. On the other hand, getting on for 40% of Conservative members are 65 and over, while only 2% (yes, 2%) are aged between 18 and 24.

No more smoking outside hospitals or in children’s playgrounds? Good. I’ve always thought it is messed up that vulnerable people have to walk through a cloud of smoke to enter a hospital.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer confirmed the government was considering banning smoking in some outdoor spaces in England.
It followed a report in the Sun newspaper that ministers could extend the indoor smoking ban to pub gardens, university and hospital campuses, sports grounds, and children's play areas.

Matthew Prince, the head of security firm Cloudflare, told the BBC.
He said it was "impossible for us to know" because X does not use Cloudflare to secure its Spaces system, but he said his firm did reach out to Mr Musk to offer assistance.
Meanwhile Alp Toker, director of Netblocks, said the social media platform's explanation of how the issue was fixed "isn't particularly consistent" with a DDoS attack.
"Given Elon Musk's claim that X had to limit the number of live listeners to mitigate the issue, we can infer that the outage correlated to the number of live listeners," said Mr Toker.

Does anyone know what this wire is? From a small holiday cottage, goes all round the wooden beams. There’s a burned bit along the way, which is why I’m asking.

Flat white wire on a wooden beam with little square raised blocks at regular intervals plus occasionally three short metal strips parallel to the wire.

The animated version of the Abominable Snowmen looks really fantastic. Mixed feelings about these animations because they can’t match seeing the actors’ true expressions, but it’s beautiful to see them in colour. #DoctorWho
