It took me a very long time to finally come around to reading Superman comics. That said, I will now scream this from the rooftops: Lois Lane is one of the all-time greatest characters in comics.

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 03/10/2025

And just like that… it’s over. We broke our previous backer record by almost 40 backers. We broke our funding record by almost $200. To all of you who supported and continue to support this project: thank you. It means the world. Now, onward to Issue 6. These woods are lovely, dark and deep…

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 02/10/2025

4 hours left in our Kickstarter campaign. Issue 5 is finished. We broke our funding record. I feel like I’m going to die now. Thank you for your patience. *passes out from exhaustion and stress*

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 30/09/2025

Kickstarter gods: we are two backers away from 150 backers and less than $1k away from breaking our all time funding record. Let’s goooooo. Indie Comic fans come thru! Algo, do your thing! 🤘🤘

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 28/09/2025

One. More. Backer. Get us to 140 before the weekend is over!

010

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 27/09/2025

I’m going to keep saying this: Now is the best time ever for comics. If you are even remotely interested, give it a shot. The “must reads” of yesteryear are fine. But go to your local comic shop and ask them for the best books that have been published over the last year. You’re in for a treat.

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 26/09/2025

Whoa. We broke our previous backer record and we still have SIX days left in our campaign! If you’re looking for a supernatural adventure story that’s FULLY FUNDED, UNLOCKING STRETCH GOALS, and already a KICKSTARTER “PROJECT WE LOVE” then consider supporting the cause!

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 24/09/2025

I am “hold up a piece of chocolate, take bite, and say ‘you know, this is a nice piece of chocolate’” years old today.

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 22/09/2025

10 days left. $350 from our next stretch goal. Very close to breaking our previous backer-count record. Happy Monday. Let’s get after it.

000

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 19/09/2025

An original art purchase on our Kickstarter unlocks the next stretch goal, and the money for the OA goes to our extremely talented artist Riccardo Cecchi. Somebody should make that happen 😎🤘.

We are ONE click away from beating our previous pre-launch subscriber number by FIFTY. It’s been an absolute war, but ONE click will get us to 176 pre-launch sign-ups. Who will be the one take us there!? What say you Comic Gods of the Internet!?

000

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 07/08/2025

Pre-launch for PROCTOR issue 5 has been live for 3 days and we are already at 111 subs! Let’s gooooo! How fast can we get to 150!? Calling all fans old and new: SMASH THAT NOTIFY ME BUTTON!

000

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 06/08/2025

We are at 94 pre-launch subscribers. Who is going to help us smash through 100 pre-subs before the day is out!?!? What say you!? Yall trying to support working class indie publishing or naw!?

000

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 29/07/2025

Well… in just 17 months, here we are. $50k in sales. Never in our wildest dreams… Much love to the team and everyone who has supported this project in one way or another. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Support indie comics. We are just getting warmed up. High Tide. Set Sail.

Sidestepping comics again to remind you that if you’re not heading to the beach screaming the lyrics to The Starting Lines’s “Saddest Girl Story,” you are missing out on one of life’s great joys. I’m talking to you, SDCC. Don’t waste the opportunity. Extra points if you have The Ataris on deck.

Do you guys remember that time I packed 10 boxes to ship but then forgot to sign the books!? Remember how awesome it was when I had to open them all and sign them and re-pack them!? Do you!? I’m having a day. Send chipwiches.

This is your Monday morning reminder to support your local movie theater. Then, go watch a band play in a mutual hall or a dive bar. Thanks.

We are averaging 100 sales of our trade paperback every month since its release back in April. Never in our wildest dreams…

Interrupting your regularly scheduled comic book programming to scream from the mountain tops that the CHIPWICH is the single greatest packaged frozen desert treat of all time. If it ain’t CHIPWICH brand, I don’t have time for it.

I have to get better at updating this thing. Uh… we funded. 😎

At 40 years old I feel the need to remind you all: going for a bike ride while the sun is shining, smashing through puddles, and making random sound effects while doing so still absolutely rips. 10/10. No notes.

Regardless of how well I do at cons, regardless of how well my previous Kickstarter campaigns do, will Week 2 of a comic campaign ever not feel like I’m getting repeatedly kicked in the teeth? Asking for a friend.

One. More. Backer. One more backer will break our Kickstarter Week 1 backer record!! Who will it be!?!? Then, it puts us about $650 away from full funding! Who is it gonna be!?!? Much love to everyone who has backed so far and helped to support working class publishing and indie comics! 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Website edits -> laundry -> Kickstarter fulfillment -> gym -> eating so much homemade gnocchi and Easter candy that I throw up at some point -> maybe a bike ride if I don’t throw up. Catch you on the flip side and happy Easter to those who celebrate 🤘🏼.

I think Taking Back Sunday’s “Cute Without the E” may have the best opening seconds of any song from that era. This is a reminder that I don’t just create comics. I also have fabulous taste in music and unresolved teen angst.

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 15/04/2025

Holy smokes… as of Sunday, I can officially say this: I have independently sold OVER 1,000 copies of Issue 1 of my comic, PROCTOR. It’s taken me 16 months to make this happen but man… what a victory.

I had no intention of my short stories taking on lives of their own, and now I can’t stop writing them. It’s going to be a long year. But also - succubi loose in the pine barrens. What a bummer, am I right?

Can we all just agree that Fallout Boy’s Take This To Your Grave was one of the greatest records of 2003?

Carmen Costa @carmencostawrites.bsky.social · 22/02/2025

I spent all morning planning. This is the least sexy part about self-pub. However, we still did $30k in sales in a little over a year WITHOUT “NSFW” content. That is not an accident. We are a working class DIY publishing house with punk rock roots, and we are here to kick the industry in its teeth.

In powerlifting you learn a lot about big, heavy, slow, patient, uncomfortable movement. I think that’s one of the reasons why I’m so at ease on this comicbook journey. What’s a deadline when you’ve picked 3x your body weight off the floor? Stay up. ✌🏼✌🏼
