New paper accepted in Proc B! 🎉 We disentangled how heatwaves affect maternal egg care in earwigs. We found that mothers adjust care depending on both their own heat stress and the stress of their eggs, but these effects act independently rather than interactively. doi.org/10.1098/rspb...

Heat stress disrupts maternal care through independent effects on mothers and eggs
Abstract. Parental care typically protects offspring from environmental stress. Yet, it remains unclear whether this protection arises from stress effects

Any ECRs interested in joining a journal editorial board? I’m leaving an associate editor position due to upcoming maternity leave and other commitments and am happy to offer suggestions to the journal for a relacement. Broad zoology remit, reasonable workload.

🚗 Traffic is a major source of urban pollution, but trees can help us monitor it. A study by a Turkish University found that antioxidant traits influence how trees tolerate pollution.🌱 Some species can even help make cities more resilient! 👉Read which ones: doi.org/10.1007/s112...

New preprint is out - a very large team got together last year, virtually and in person and assessed code and data sharing in BES journals. The key take away? Data sharing was good (97% shared), code sharing was poorer (35%). README files were also highly variable in quality. Publish your code!

Global impoverishment of natural vegetation revealed by ‘dark diversity’
Back in 2019, we ventured into the field with a rather unusual mission: to search for the biodiversity that wasn’t there. At first glance, this might seem counterintuitive – after all, we’re …

Hello BlueSky🙂. I'm a grant writer at Tampere University (Finland) / evolutionary ecologist. In my research I look at how and why different organisms (Asian elephants / reindeer / butterflies) respond to external stressors (parasites / immune threats / climate change) in noisy, natural systems.
