Brachycybe millipede dads can cart their kiddos around like a minivan! This genus has one of the few known cases of obligate paternal care in arthropods. Dads groom the eggs and protect them from fungal infections, desiccation, and predation. 🌿🧪🐛
A pink flat millipede is standing like an inchworm, holding a cluster of yellow spherical eggs in the "pocket" with his legs. I rolled his log over to have a look, and in response to the light and drier air, he picked up his eggs and is on his way to the underside of the log.
