I’m in a long-distance relationship with a Canadian. I’ve been aware of ICE and their bleak actions for some time. But this whole article hit me on a personal, relevant level. And then there’s this profit from shuffling non-Americans around. If that’s not human trafficking I don’t know what is.

A screenshot of two paragraphs from the Guardian article “I’m the Canadian who was detained by Ice for two weeks. It felt like I had been kidnapped” (published March 19, 2025). The paragraphs detail government-funded companies that engage in US ICE-related detainment and imprisoning of non-Americans regardless of immigration status or legal safety. The companies profit from hundreds of millions of dollars from ICE contracts and work to put detainees in prison for as long as possible for maximum profit.
