The price tag on period poverty? Lost wages, lost opportunities, and lost potential. When people can’t access products or safe facilities, earning a living becomes even harder. A period shouldn’t cost someone their pay cheque. Help #EndPeriodPoverty ➡️ care.ca/period

Yesterday, the government announced the federal budget—and cut $2.7 billion from #ForeignAid. They say the money is needed to strengthen Canada’s security and economy. But here’s the thing: Cutting foreign aid actually puts that at risk. #Budget2025 #AidWorks
A graphic showing why the logic behind cutting $2.7 billion from foreign aid in Canada's federal budget is misplaced. Text reads "Aid makes the world safer—for everyone. Foreign aid helps stop problems before they spiral into crises—like pandemics, climate disasters, mass displacement, and wars. Every $1 spent on prevention can save up to $60 in military intervention costs. 2: Aid strengthens Canada’s economy. Foreign aid helps create markets for our goods. On average, for every $1 Canada invests in aid, we get $1.19 back through exports. Take Vietnam: we now earn more in exports every two years than we spent in 35 years of aid. 3: Aid builds Canada’s credibility. Canadians believe in fairness, compassion, and doing our part. Foreign aid shows the world what we stand for and helps Canada be a respected voice on the global stage. 4: Aid was a modest part of the budget. Foreign aid made up just 0.3% of our gross national income. That’s about 2 cents for every tax dollar."

1/3 👑 A lot of attention is being paid to the fact that King Charles III delivered Canada’s Speech from the Throne today. At CARE Canada, our attention was not only on who spoke, but also on what was said. ⬇️ Here’s our take on the 2025 #ThroneSpeech ⬇️
A graphic with CARE Canada's take on the Throne Speech. Text reads:

1. What we welcome: Canada’s strong commitment to building and strengthening our international relationships, finding allies to share our belief in international cooperation.

2. What’s missing: We were disappointed not to hear any mention of gender equality, humanitarian needs or our foreign aid legacy. With trade and defense taking center stage throughout the speech, it’s time to recognize the connected nature of our international presence.

3. What needs to happen next: Using the upcoming G7 summit and emerging mandates to build on previous commitments to reinforce Canada’s legacy of humanitarian and development response, securing Canada’s role as a compassionate and impactful global leader.
