I *need* to start putting it in my diary to check in on the National Literacy Trust’s Annual Literacy Survey. Just catching up on the Future of Literacy project, the first paper of which includes a section dedicated to comics, with some encouraging takeaways: literacytrust.org.uk/information/...

Despite wider declining trends, comics and graphic novels have remained unusually buoyant in popularity with print reading of comics dipping only slightly since 2017 (32.2% vs 29.2% in 2025); the shallowest decline of any reading material monitored. Their translation to digital form has proven successful with readers too; while most other forms of reading on screen have stagnated or fallen, comics have bucked the trend with digital reading rates increasing over the last seven years (13.8% in 2017/18 to 14.3% in 2025).

I struggled to get started with attacks on @artfight.net this year, but the 2 pieces I did complete, I got EXTREMELY absorbed in. Zero and Y'shtola from Final Fantasy 14 imitate the famous Utena sword-drawing scene. Y'shtola is draped over Zero's right arm in an apparent swoon. Zero, her left arm extended and cape billowing behind her, is focused on a blinding circle of light glowing above Y'shtola's breast.

Still on my FFXIV kick! My very generous parents got me an iPad for Christmas and I'm finally beginning to figure out my process for it. Here's my Azem, Abeona, who in Rin canon is Emet-Selch's twin and bullied him into taking up the position. More over on my FFXIV tumblr: rin-khatayin.tumblr.com

Two FFXIV Ancients stand back-to-back on an indistinct, purplish background, their masks attached to the front of their robes. My comic thumbnails when I'm being edited vs when the only person who has to understand them is me

Four comic thumbnails for the comic "In Lilac and Silver". The characters are very simplified and there are few background details, but the figures and speech bubbles are very clear. One section uses a coloured pen to further pick out linked panels.

Six thumbnails from the comic "Fault Lines". They are extremely scratchy scribbles and background/nonhuman creatures are almost impossible to make out if present at all. Sometimes the characters are just circles where the heads should be.

... and after we won, the stranger we'd raided with sent a friend invite, which I accepted. And it turns out they were a tourist themselves, as I've been receiving gifts from Kuala Lumpur ever since. Just a lot of really fun interactions. I hope the others also got to befriend the second tourist!
