Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 30/09/2026The transition from blue hour to light pollution hours in Seattle. I wasn't expecting the plane coming towards me at the end to take a hard right turn. Note, you can see the Loupe near the top of the Space Needle rotating. It's not hard to look at. 3898
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Saturday evening in Seattle from Kerry Park. There was a larger crowd than I'm used to for sunset. The Mariners were playing in the park behind the Ferris Wheel with no hope of making the playoffs. 1131
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Fall auroras also offer a rare time that I can see the aurora without much snow on the ground. This results in some of the darkest skies all year when the moon isn't present. 23914
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Fall equinox is this week. During the equinoxes, Earth's magnetic orientation favors energy transfer from the solar wind into the magnetosphere, increasing the chance of auroras. For me, clouds are normally problematic this time of year. Spring is better. (This photo is overlooking Anchorage) 1174
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Forget dating apps. Singles, come over and mingle while doing my yard work. 2181
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I took the US Capital's portrait on Monday 9/14 this week, about an hour after the Senate designated Sept 11-17, 2026 as Patriot Week. The ducks in the pond were laughing rather loudly while I was there. 192
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 19/09/2026North facing window seat flying across the WA Cascades from east to west today. AK was overcast, so no timelapse heading from Seattle to Anchorage. Sad trombone sound. 2202
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I’ve seen Belugas along Turnagain Arm 3 times this season. I have a 100% success rate seeing them near this mile marker just past Windy. I have a 0% success rate at Beluga Point. Why is the mile marker horizontal? Are the belugas responsible?? Why is Beluga Point deceptive this season??? 2101
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Obscure fact. Japan's geostationary view of Hurricane Lowell (at its current location) is very similar to NOAA's geostationary view of Anchorage. I'm guessing NHC isn't looking Japan's satellite. Hoping Lowell's upcoming right turn is a little less than 90 degrees. 061
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 05/09/2026A most successful excursion down Turnagain Arm includes seeing white sheep, white swans and white belugas while the wind isn't blowing 30+mph. I was 2/3 on my viewing yesterday. The swans were posing wonderfully for their golden hour portrait session. 10/10 2143
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Can someone send belugas? I’ve only seen them once this season. 0110
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I made a timelapse to capture the clouds and cloud shadows over the freshened mountains above Anchorage on Mon afternoon. I didn't realize I was also capturing the wind gusts bending the vegetation (right side) until I processed the images. BTW, most of this snow is now gone. 1396
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 01/09/2026I took this photo of the bore tide on Aug 20, 2024. There's not a single surfer in the photo. It was so wild to see everyone on Aug 29, 2026. 150
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 01/09/2026It was an early termination dust day today for the higher terrain around Anchorage. The vegetation, even at elevation, was barely changing color yet. Take that you all you encroaching willows! 3264
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Surfers on the bore tide in Turnagain arm on Sat. There was a paddle out tribute/celebration of life for Guy Erickson. The full 3 min video can be found at youtu.be/HJCjUQ9HJBA Thanks to tallbill.bsky.social for alerting me to the paddle-out. Today's bore tide is predicted to be around 6:45pm. 1101
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 30/08/2026What if it was all green?! A 75 minute star trail from Sat night under a bright moon. 081
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Last night was the first aurora of the season for me! It came with the moon 94% lit. This substorm hit around 1:20am AK time. 2457
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Bore tide in Turnagain Arm was packed with surfers today. I don't think I've seen that many surfers for a bore tide before. 85515

Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Inspired by @climatologist49.bsky.social moose graphs, here is my yellow jacket observation graph. alaskapublic.org/news/anchora... 4131
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 26/08/2026I saw a partial rainbow today. It’s like Hawaii over here. 1200
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 11/08/2026Zero dandelion control going on. I rate this dandelion control specialist a 1/10. 2141
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 09/08/2026One of the more interesting parts of the airshow in Anchorage was before the blue angels. There was a giant cloud of black smoke, followed by a jet shooting up near the smoke. Then it began shooting while it slowly fell down. Some doves then photobombed my shot, probably spooked by all the noise. 260
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 06/08/2026When wind shear goes wild. Low clouds on their way to Turnagain Arm to see if there were any belugas whales got shredded by descending southerly winds. 2182
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 05/08/2026For the cloud fans. I think they were on their way to Denali to make snow today. 3285
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 29/07/2026The nest is dead. Now I see why my furnace didn’t work. They blocked the flow completely. Evil creatures. 241
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 29/07/2026I’ve had 4 yellow jacket nest on my house and deck this summer. One is in the outflow vent of my furnace. It caused the furnace to stop working. You’re looking at a bottle with 7 dust inside over the vent. They get the dust on them and take it back to the nest for a quick massacre. 4110
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 26/07/2026It’s likely going to get above 65F inside today. It’s a heat wave! Stay cool everyone. 160
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 25/07/2026This was the wildest sky scene I’ve seen in a while. Noctilucent clouds viewed from above Kodiak around 4am. The orange/red band was from the sun hitting lower clouds I think. The sky was dark full of stars elsewhere else. The plane wing is at the bottom. 1173
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 15/07/2026The new storage method is to store the snow where it fell on the road? Can I get an extra helping of window rock chips too? 230
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 15/07/2026Clouds going in opposite directions and one cloud decides to make a u turn. 1164
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Fresh snow on the mountain tops near Anchorage this morning. No heat warnings in place here. 150
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Three Dandelion Control Specialist working hard in my yard. Why can't they do this every day?! This is a 4.5 min video sped up to 20 seconds. 1316
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 19/06/2026This young dandelion control specialist has enough dandelions in a 5ft sq radius to survive through summer. Send more dandelion control specialist! 2103

Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 14/06/2026I should have watched longer before sharing an image. This is 1218pm local. Look at the structure in that circulation near the ground! 091
Don Moore @capture907.bsky.social · 14/06/2026For the lava and ash-devil fans, Kilauea is doing volcano things again. If you scroll back to about 1210pm local time on the youtube channel you can see a well-defined circulation. There's lots of tephra falling too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXKu... 2203
