This is critical, and informs everything I’ve done. I read this piece when it was written, and all of the others as well over the years. I am not sure that there is anything that is more important when it comes to understanding Trump, and his movement.
But politics generally and especially intra-Republican political battles are really about demonstrating dominance - not policy mastery or polling leads but a series of symbols and actions that mark the dominating from the dominated.

This implies that the U.S. has suppressed Iranian ISR. That is interesting, and probably not as straightforward as it sounds. It’s one thing to destroy Iranian sensors and teams operating on the Iranian coast. It’s another to suppress covert Iranian assets operating in Oman, or the strait.
"Current intelligence suggests that the recent pattern of incidents may not necessarily represent deliberate targeting of individually selected merchant vessels,"
Marisks said.
"Instead, available information indicates the possibility that Iranian forces are launching missiles into a predetermined engagement area or 'kill box', with weapons potentially acquiring and locking onto available radar signatures within that area."
Physical presence within the engagement zone at the relevant time could itself represent the primary exposure, it added.

Here Putin is again, simply assuming that Trump will successfully keep the U.S. out of a Russian war with NATO. That assumption is entirely unfounded, as is the notion that the war wouldn’t expand into Ukraine, or that threats, or use, of nuclear weapons will deter NATO from responding forcefully.
"We understand that we'll be facing an adversary twice our size," Putin said about a potential conflict with NATO. "The point is that we have competitive advantages in our means of self-defense. Yes, of course, France and Great Britain are nuclear powers; we understand this perfectly well and are fully aware of it. But no one else has the weapons that Russia has today."

Eh, hard to know how to evaluate this without knowing what the broader funding universe is doing. There are huge new costs for funding protest movements and legal fights we didn’t have in previous cycles. Heck, the protest movement is doing its own GOTV, so maybe that is the issue.

Wow, I’m so sad for them 🙄 if they hadn’t prioritized their alliance with Trump and his family over the alliance with the US, maybe none of this would have happened. If foreign countries have financial links to Trump, I am inclined to view that as domestic political interference.

Would be interesting if FedEx has a record of a USPS shipment to China, lol Anyways, what are the odds that a batch of blue state mail goes to the city that hosts FedEx World Hub, which also happens to be in a ruby red state?
The FedEx World Hub in Memphis, Tennessee, is a massive central logistics superhub centered at the Memphis International Airport that handles millions of global parcels.

• Nighttime Operations: Between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM, the facility turns the Memphis airport into one of the busiest nighttime cargo operations in the world.

Just to be clear, the claim that the tracking labels were removed comes from management. I see no evidence that corroborates that beyond the fact that the ballots weren’t in the mail stream records, and went to Tennessee before returning.
Finding #3: Inquiries Related to the Delivery of Ballots in New Jersey and North Carolina
During our fieldwork, we received two separate inquiries related to the delivery of ballots in New Jersey and North Carolina that prompted additional, limited reviews. Specifically, in response to a congressional inquiry, we reviewed the circumstances related to missing and undelivered mail-in ballots mailed in April 2026 for the New Jersey primary election held on June 2, 2026. We conducted a limited review to gain an understanding of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to management, on April 22, 2026, the Trenton, NJ, P&DC accepted the primary election ballots on pallets from a Board of Elections office.
Each pallet had a tracking label designed to log when the mail was processed, loaded onto transportation vehicles, and distributed to destinating delivery units. To maximize trailer volume utilization during processing, Trenton P&DC personnel transferred the ballots from their original pallets to a different type of physical container. However, the tracking labels did not accompany the transferred mail.
Because the labels were removed, the ballots lost mailstream visibility. Consequently, the Postal Service lost the ability to identify these specific containers as containing Ballot Mail.
The loss of physical container visibility directly resulted in a routing failure across multiple postal facilities.
The ballots moved unmonitored through the Memphis processing network before being returned to the South Jersey P&DC on April 29, 2026 - seven days after their initial acceptance - for delivery the following day (April 30, 2026). The Memphis NDC did not maintain a log or a documented record of the ballots. Numerous interviewed employees had no recollection of handling or processing the containers.

My view (based on some small amount of experience with software development and rollouts) is that it would be very unlikely there is a full blown capability to fake ballots at scale, which is implemented and ready for the midterms.
In a response included with the findings of the audit, the Postal Service wrote that "while we acknowledge that we can always reinforce and amplify our internal processes and procedures (and will continue to do so between now and November) — overall ballot mail performance is strong." The agency acknowledged that there are some instances in which employees didn't follow policies and procedures, but called other errors "isolated incidents," such as when some New Jersey ballots were delivered to Tennessee before being sent back.

There is a tension between the answers to these questions. The 70% answer is almost certainly to legalize everyone who is here, lock down the border, and reform the legal immigration pipelines. There are foreign policy actions that could maybe help at the margins in reducing migration.

This is crazy
The report concluded the $10 million in taxpayer money was "plainly used for political purposes" but also could not find enough evidence to charge anyone with a crime because no one would take responsibility for deciding to divert the money. It noted that most of those invovled were lawyers who "acted on the advice of other lawyers" making it hard to determine who was to blame.

This is interesting. The challenges of rapidly scaling all of the guardrails they have developed is arguably a bigger challenge than the iterative model development is. They need to keep improving the research sandboxes, the model training processes, the alignment effort, etc with each iteration.
The signals we are seeing from upcoming model progress make clear that we need a broader approach— one that builds on and extends beyond the current Preparedness Framework.

It’s not an existential crisis. We know what an existential crisis looks like, because we are confronting one in the Trump administration. Regardless of who is the nominee, the focus needs to be on squeezing the most value out of the race, and ultimately winning the seat.

Dull Knife survives
During the escape, two of Dull Knife's daughters and another son were killed. The old chief himself managed to evade capture with a small party that included his remaining wife, Pawnee Woman, and his son, Hump. They had separated from the others early by running east instead of west. They traveled at night for two weeks until they came to the home of a White friend who helped them get to the new Red Cloud agency, now called the Pine Ridge agency. When they arrived, friends and relatives built them a lodge in a remote area where they could recover from their ordeal.
They were eventually joined by the other survivors of the massacre at Fort Robinson.

Peter Thiels Founders Fund killed SVB Bank
Some Trump administration officials and allies have privately discussed whether the report could provide a legal basis to remove Fed Governor Michael Barr from the central bank's board, according to people familiar with the matter who were granted anonymity to speak freely. Barr was vice chair for supervision — the Fed's top job in banking oversight — when SVB collapsed after a bank run triggered by a heavy concentration of uninsured deposits and poor management of interest-rate risk.

Bankhead doesn’t appear to have much money. $20k is in the “some dude” category. Again, I just want someone aside from the Republican to win. I don’t have anything against Bankhead. But if Bodnar is the one with a real shot, then she should drop out.
In a statement posted to social media in early July, Bankhead said she had heard that some members of the Montana Democratic Party
board of directors were supporting Bodnar rather than her own campaign. The split, she said, was only further proof that her campaign was facing opposition from a "political machine" more than a traditional partisan fight.
"This race is no longer about Republicans and Democrats" the statement read. "[I]t has become about power, corruption and manipulation and the soul of Montana."

I don’t know what the establishment thinks, but I think it is indisputably true that the DSA is not remotely as toxic to the political system as MAGA is, or at least any version of MAGA led by Trump. As to the rest, they both seem like talented candidates. Probably either would be fine.
Progressives felt similarly about their moderate counterparts, arguing that the establishment views candidates like El-Sayed as just as detrimental to the political system as MAGAism.

Don’t sleep on the governors races, and state level races in general. In many ways, this are much more important than driving up the margin in the House. Governors provide a critical counterweight to Trump that a few more House members simply don’t. State legislators are critical as well.
Finally, the governor model remains unchanged this week, with Democrats holding 28 seats and Republicans holding 22. Democrats are projected to win between 25 and 31 governor's mansions, while Republicans are projected to win between 19 and 25.

AI will manage the robots, robots will maintain the robots, and eventually they will stop failing, and will fill all the gaps. AI, and AI controlled robots can write books, arrange flowers, make and star in movies, mow the lawn, build houses, and change diapers.
The most likely result is that we will get humanoids who will be useful for some jobs, but that we'll still need humans for many
others, including the job of managing the robots, maintaining the robots, and filling the gaps where the robots fail.
