She did not enjoy this, to my surprise.

My husband is apparently incapable of taking one of these clips* off. I am going to start pre-opening everything in the house.
A bag of carrots on a kitchen counter. The plastic bag is roughly torn open at one end. At the same end, a hand supports the intended opening, displaying that it remains closed with one of those white plastic bread clips.

Last night on walkies we encountered this beastie on the sidewalk; i scooped it up (in a dog poo bag so it wouldn't leap from my hands; very agitated bag) and released it to a pond. Our first guess was bullfrog but we doubted it because of color. looked up ID and it is!
Photo of a pale green bullfrog on a background of weeds and old wet leaves.

This week's dinner plans: have purchased 4 different veggie burgers to attempt to find a new favorite, because I'm pretty sure my old favorite (original GardenBurger™) is effectively discontinued. I can Allegedly get a 48ct box on amazon for $130, but even Kellogg's website for it is all janky.
Photo of four packages of veggie burgers. Red box, "actual veggies"-brand mushroom quinoa, white-orange-green box dr. praeger's balck bean quinoa, green pouch Morningstar farms garden veggie, white-green pouch Morningstar farms "Grillers" original burgers.

*incoherent shrieking*
Photo of a white dog with a brown face. She is in a raised garden bed full of watermelon vines. The bed has a fence around it, and a wooden frame of chicken wire on top. A human might assume the dog is not supposed to be in there. The dog evidently did not make that assumption.

Last night's rainy water levels, as recorded on the bike trail next to a creek, and current water levels as enjoyed by LeggyDog.
A photo on the border of a blacktop bike trail and the grass beside it. The photo includes four dead fish, dried out like sidewalk earthworms, each the size of a large thumb. Photo of a creek clear up to its banks so it has become a small pond, with much submerged grass. A white dog is up to her chest at the edge of the water. There are two metal posts marking where the bridge would be, if it were not completely under the water.

Every introduction with the neighbors: "oh, you live in the house with the jumping dog! We saw the stuff you put on top of the fence and wondered why but we figured it out." She got shots recently and the vet commented her legs are very muscular.
Photo of white dog with brown face, mid leap to retrieve a tennis ball stuck in a chain link fence. The top of the fence has been extended with the sort of decorative black wire fencing you can push into the ground around flower beds, making it about a foot taller. That's where the ball is stuck.

Heat PSA: These are at my Aldi this week and are human-useful too. They have gel inside and are 80% the cooling power of lying in a puddle with 1% of the mess (can get stinky from sweat/humidity; wipe them with soapy water and leave in the sun). You can stash them in the fridge for bonus power.
A photo of an aldi display, stacked boxes of "pet cooling mats". The boxes are tan with a spaniel-type dog lying on a blue or pink mat. The price tag reads $14.99.

Went down a more local trail today, did not find any garlic mustard. Good in the sense of one fewer invasive species there but disappointing for dinner plans. HOWEVER Pending confirmation from experts, i might've found oyster mushrooms. And if so, will make my husband help me yoink that log.
Photo of a hand holding a mushroom, near a dead log with more of the mushroom on it. The mushroom is turned sideways to show the gills and attachment to another layer of mushroom. It sure looks like an oyster mushroom.

Screenshot of text message. text reads: also I found a check to my old h o a. The memo is written in shorthand, but I can't make it out. It is clearly blank my balls, but it can't be suck or lick... Looks like id, itr, it, itr, kd, kt, cd, ct... There's definitely no l or s.

Okay everything sewing related, including fabric (and my other pair of hemostats, i knew i had two of those) is now pulled from its various locations and organized into one area.
Photo inside a closet. On a shelf is a bolt of green scale-print fabric. On top of the bolt are a box with a small sewing machine, the off brand of that blue cookie tin everyone's grandma's sewing kit is in, and a stack of folded fabric remnants.

This might not be Copilot's fault but I'm going to blame it anyway. (Selecting the 'correction' does not remove the squiggle.)

New AI censorship observation: Googled 'National Day of Silence.' Every single result is about, you know, the National Day of Silence, except the google AI answer.
Short description: Screenshot of google results for "national day of silence", except the google AI overview is focused on "National Quiet Day", about being quiet or unplugging for reflection. The actual results show it's an LGBTQ advocacy day.

Long description: The AI overview reads: National Quiet Day is observed on different dates, with common ones being September 14th, focusing on mindfulness and stress reduction from constant noise, and February 25th, sometimes called "Don't Utter a Word Day," for embracing silence and reflection. Both days encourage digital detoxes, mindfulness, and intentional pauses to combat noise pollution and improve well-being, though September 14th is linked to a return to routines and February 25th to Anglican traditions of quiet devotion. End AI overview.
The lower part of the screen shows actual results for Day of Silence from GLSEN and wikipedia, explaining that it's a demonstration against bullying of LGBTQ students.
Partly cropped along the right edge are websites the AI cited, above the image results for day of silence , featuring a brick wall painted in rainbow stripes.

4-panel Comic strip, anthropomorphic raccoon child, tim, and slightly older fox child, millie.

Second panel, tim saying "You know how if you say a word over and over, it starts to not mean anything?"
Third panel, millie says "yeah," Tim says "Well, I figure maybe if I start with one that doesn't mean anything, it might start to!"
Fourth panel, Tim has resumed saying Flooba, and Millie says "well, it's worth a shot. Flooba flooba flooba..."

Screenshot of relevant portion of the article.
Text reads:
Are there any challenges with this costume? Yes, the application of hot glue to my face is by far the biggest challenge of the costume. It’s applied directly to the skin and hair on my face, which leads to some burning and a little swearing, lol. It generally takes me 1.5 hours to apply to my face.

My face is completely covered. My upper lip is sealed to my lower lip and chin with the glue, which means no eating or drinking for the day. I’m pretty much locked into my outfit once I put it all on.

I generally fast for 12-16 hours on game days because of the challenge it would take to remove the outfit for tinkle time! I avoid bathrooms at all costs!

After the game, it generally takes me two hours to completely remove the hot glue from my face, which leads to more swearing and watery eyes, lol. Looking at myself in the mirror the following morning isn’t a pretty sight. How my wife hasn’t divorced me yet is still unknown!

Two things! One: image. Two: anecdote elsewebs, Jobs agency has great welder who keeps failing interviews. A shop calls up for a welder, agency says PLEASE just test him instead of interviewing, trust us; shop did so, hired him on the spot, AND bought him lunch so he could start that day.
Tumblr screenshot. user desolationlesbian writes: Applying for jobs is a hell designed specifically to torment autistic people. Here is a well-paying task which you know in your heart and soul if they just gave you a desk and left you alone and allowed you to do it you would sit there and be more focused and enthusiastic and excellent at it than anyone else in the building. However, before they allow you to perform the task, you must pass through three to four opaque social crucibles where you must wear uncomfortable clothes and make eye contact while everyone expects you to lie, but not too much. No one is ever clear exactly how much lying is expected, over honesty is however penalized. You are being judged almost entirely on how well you understand these very specific and unclear rules that no one has explained. None of this has anything to do with your ability to perform the desired task. end quote.

Trying to think this through so the tail part comes out more cleanly than the fins part. Having a sewing machine doesn't make my plans cleaner or more thought-through, just faster.

My stupid brain is like this person's stupid brain: chaoslife.findchaos.com/comic/flight...
4-panel comic featuring one person with short, light hair and one with long, dark hair. it appears to be late evening.
First panel: Overlaid text "Given any chance, my brain will come up with the stupidest possible answer." Short hair is looking up into a tree, "Hey, that sounds like a tree frog!"
Second panel: We are looking down at the pair through the branches, and can also see the frog and a bird. Long hair, reaching up, says "I think I see it. Let me just tap it with a leaf to see if it moves."
Third panel: The bird and frog have leapt in opposite directions; short hair flinches as the bird, too dark to identify, squawks and scrambles over them.
Fourth panel: Short hair looks confused and alarmed, with a thought bubble showing that their brain has linked up the dark flapping object and the frog they knew was there into a furiously flapping flying frog.

My brother tells me the same stories and illustrations were also published as "Im Reich Der Märchen." My father bought this book, but doesn't remember if he got it in West or East Germany or if it was new/used at the time.
The cover of a book, in german: Die schönsten Märchen. It's a blue hardback, with the front illustration being 3 kids peeking around a tree at a princess, squire-type person too small to make out, and a castle in the distance. It's printed directly on the binding, instead of a book jacket. The bottom says "Hemma", a publisher. The inside front cover of the book. The inside of the hard cover has been ripped out. The first page is intact, with title again, and crediting illustrations to J. Lagarde and text to I. Flemmes. A photo of a page of Rottkäppchen -- little red riding hood. One illustration of her strolling along with a basket, one of her stopping at a direction sign. Honestly she looks way too young to be on this task alone, can she even read the sign? The text is in a pretty standard serif font, but uses french quotation marks -- guillemets.Bottom of the back of the book, showing a partial illustration of animals and kids in the grass, and the UPC. Small text at the bottom reads, in german, Kollektion: Die schönsten Märchen. Hemma Verlag. There's a logo for Hemma, and underneath it says S. 203.

Photo of a sign. Relevant portion reads "the name crinoid is derived from the Greek work krinon, meaning "lily form;" however they are actually animals." Photo is edited to cross out "Greek work" and replace with "Greek word," and to add a comma after "however."Photo of portion of sign near the floor. It refers to the time of the great dying in the Permian period, 252.28 k y a, meaning thousands of years ago. The K should be an M for millions. Photo of a sign, describing trilobites on display and giving their provenance information. Evidently the font does not include certain diacritics; the photo is edited to highlight multiple instances of lowercase letters replaced with incongruous capitals. For example a capital O with a caret stands in place of a lowercase i with two dots.
