Show me a room of conservatives and I’ll show you a crowd of cowards unable to acknowledge their privilege and terrified that merit will one day matter. Beautiful things will outlive human folly. Dogs like me.

How do you know which is which?

A friend of mine that shares that exact same state was only able to establish so with a physical search through a filing cabinet of Hungarian records that had survived from before WWII. S44 should have mechanisms for reasonable excuse for children/grandchildren of stateless refugees. (It doesn’t)

Yeah but the conservative orthodoxy that will assemble and arise in place of the current one will. Forgiveness and Healing.

I am uneasy with the influence the Israeli lobby has on Minns but using that image conflates Judaism and Israel and invites antisemites to endorse your position. Wearing a kippah/yarmulke is just a polite thing to do in many Jewish contexts.

Is there a single republican candidate making a good, sincere and cogent case to be returned in the midterms?

He is, he is, but it’s the Easter bunny that is the real enigma

Not unless the democrats allow the purging to go deep into their ranks also, the lobby industry is prohibited, the electoral college is completely overhauled and all gerrymandering is banned. Probably need to change the structure of the Supreme Court and set up multiple forms of public broadcasting

Did you even have the decency to thank them?

Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
Midterms! Has everyone forgotten that the Dems achieved nothing regarding trump in a full administrative term?
100
Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
A dem administration didn’t land a punch in four years largely because of the degree you are complicit in the establishment of a national political class and global neoliberal agenda.

Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
“Forgiveness and healing” is gonna get there first. There is almost an entire political class culpable and they will move as one with few exceptions to protect themselves and the money.

If a Teal currently in place in one of those “former” Liberal heartland seats ever shows their hand clearly as being anything other than a shiny green veneer over privilege-denying tax-minimisation they will get booted really quickly.
010
Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Be careful what you wish for. Independents only get influence and attention when they can provide balance of power. If that possibility suddenly came to be the many Teals would have no choice but to support the Liberal party (unless they wanted to lose their seats) and grant it government.

Quote just one significant accusation that he is controlling everything please. He is not in control of much but he has extraordinary influence over many things a single person should not

Most people do not know how to effectively vote prefentially and a huge number vote emotionally rather than tactically. Most people still vote in terms of who they want to lead the country rather than to indicate which way they want it led.
000
Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Yeah you can if people just vote anti-albo with 1, get it out of their system and vote albo 2. The independents give people the opportunity to protest vote without actually considering the Greens as a real option. Just like the Teals let selfish people kid themselves they are decent.

Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
The periodicity of that data is intriguing
010
Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
As usual the independents are getting in the way of the greens and taking the pressure off the ALP. Ferguson will split the progressive/protest vote and Albanese will win in a canter.

I’ll be your reply guy with nothing additional to contribute

Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I don’t know much about her other than I reckon she’ll split the progress/protest vote and Albanese will absolutely romp this one in.
000
Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Either Albanese or Plibersek losing their seat to a Green candidate would be the best thing to happen for progressive politics in years.

I’m all for breaking up the duopoly but with ALDI, IGA and other players are already on the board so surely this is an opportunity to boost existing diversity. Maybe charge a levy to each supermarket calculated according to relative floor space within a certain radius. Allow for small towns etc.
010
Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
That looks absolutely magnificent. Can you please describe your method?
000
Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
And hit a few racist branches on the way down
021
Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
People should stop being so lazy and voting for the duopoly. And people who have realised that the duopoly is death should stop being tolerant of their friends and family voting for death.

The first rule of the ALP is to never validate the greens as that would make people realise the extent to which Labor has become the party of establishment. (LNP is now far right and ON is chaos). The Greens are the only organised progressive voice in this country.

With an opening that includes discussion of the civil war, Nixon, the southern strategy, Reaganomics, the embrace of neoliberalism across the aisle, Dick Cheney, and a nice graph of extrajudicial killings of targets and collatoral civilians for each of the presidents from this century.

People posting completely true, and hopefully one day proven, things about trump in the belief that the integrity of the judicial process will always protect them from his wrath may have missed the near-complete degradation of the judicial process

If they adopted mitigation of climate change as core to national and global security the potential for the US to catch up with China in addressing climate change and restoring its soft power dominance of geopolitics would be tremendous. But the political class of the US is too fuckin’ stoopid.

Tim Salmon @canotuna.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
The military industrial complex is not only a direct means of hard power but also a multifaceted internal stimulus program (“THATS SOCIALISM!”) with enormous soft power domestically and globally. It has also been funding a lot of climate research as they want to know how to deal with change.

The state should ensure redundancy exists and at the retail level that usually exists through proper maintenance of a competitive market. There should be stockpiles of essential supplies. Ideally countries should be able to make their own insulin for instance.

The costly bit is maintaining redundant or pilot systems that can scale up in times of need and ensure people with necessary skills are able to respond.

Yes but sovereignty is still important and each country should well understand its vulnerabilities to potential breakdowns in regional and global trade and communications.

It’s the smooth trajectory that nails it. No sudden changes just a gradual but inexorable realisation in the minds of most people that the man is not fit to be president. So now it is going to get really, really dangerous.

My kid thinks he’s made of pretty potent stuff and the promise of privilege and power that comes with slytherin has massive appeal for him. In reality he’s a hufflepuff like me: he has some pain ahead of him in that discovery. His mum is ravenclaw. He has a grandparent in each house.

And it was more than guitar music. The masses of my generation suddenly realised how much was behind the curtain and every genre started shifting away from what was being force fed by the corporates.
