Super Ed was pulling coaches. If those trials were successful, would there even be a need for James going forward? Did the railway even need him now?
Had it ever?
James settled in at Tidmouth Sheds, glad no supercharged microwaves were in attendance. His relief was short-lived, as the engines could talk of nothing else - they'd already been talking about the Electro-Diesel as James had settled in.
Then, the bomb dropped. Gordon voiced his belief that James was to blame for their newcomer. And Murdoch agreed. Emily and Oliver fought back, but the bigger engines remained unmoved. Gordon even began ripping into James in that way he did, where anyone would think the engine he was speaking such ill of wasn't even there.
At that, James decided he wasn't welcome in Tidmouth Sheds. On any other day, James would have fought back. He would have retaliated, tried to argue his innocence. Ultimately, he decided to forgo the effort. At least this way he could escape the yelling.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:5jvtoggbymkbodoe4dljn6lq/bafkreiesp7nrflykytvlqwqagcatzuoq2mwisfmcbfuqvchd4edo3nxhua)

"Super" Ed, as he was now insistent on calling himself, was making Tidmouth Sheds a difficult place to live. The engines on the whole still had rather mixed opinions on him - he was doing quite well with the coal trains, but at the same time, his new attitude had become quite grating. Gordon was decidedly in the camp of detesting the new engine. Then again, he detested most diesels from the Other Railway - especially ones that performed exceptionally well.
It didn't help at all that Super Ed seemed to showcase an interest in the big engine's coaches - namely the Wild Nor' Wester...](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:5jvtoggbymkbodoe4dljn6lq/bafkreicbwsnhhkqorek6ijagj4bltuw43lb5r5zvkjshu4ycftde3wjqne)

Rebecca and Hermes arrived in Tidmouth's main station where BoCo gave them a silent nod of good luck. They met the stationmaster, who went to find Sir Topham Hatt for them, which served as the first of many hints for the yellow engine that this wasn't Hermes' first time arranging such a meeting.
At first, Hermes tried to lead with what he must've hoped was a compelling argument, but when his already fickle confidence fell through, Rebecca stepped in. Recalling what she'd seen of Ed's type back in the Southern Region, she offered up any solution she could think of to improve the new engine's condition.
As it turned out, Sir Topham Hatt had already scheduled for Ed to be evaluated at Crovan's Gate, and that Rebecca, Hermes, Henry, and Emily's concerns had been unwarranted. Beyond relieved, Rebecca and Hermes returned to the shed to share the good news.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:5jvtoggbymkbodoe4dljn6lq/bafkreibr7ajlw7u32g3habnjv3aktgdrqwbeq3rffyv66wgc4uxiqz5vy4)

Hermes always enjoyed running at night, whether he was carrying mail vans, milk tankers, stone trains - anything, really.
The peaceful atmosphere always seemed to put him at ease - plus, the trucks always seemed too tired to give him much trouble.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:5jvtoggbymkbodoe4dljn6lq/bafkreif647hnibjdvynqltm7auzdb5ndch6bmvutfeytff6yhlr7t3ohoa)

Toad the Brake Van felt a bit like a fish out of water. He'd been in considerably better condition than Oliver and Isabel, and as such had been put back into service much sooner than the other two. Now, he was alone, on an unfamiliar island.
While waiting to be dragged off to who-knows-where, Toad met a little red engine, who introduced himself as Rheneas. The two engines talked for a while - mostly about the company Toad had had on his way to Sodor. Toad was surprised to find that Rheneas not only understood his feelings - he related to them.
Rheneas had arrived not long after another engine - Skarloey. Skarloey was numbered 1, and named after the railway. Rheneas began to feel for a while that he was living in Skarloey's shadow, much like how Toad felt he was in Oliver's shadow.
Rheneas encouraged Toad to find someone he wanted to work with, not someone he felt he had to attach himself to. Toad kept this in mind as Rheneas set off to resume his work, knowing exactly who that engine would be.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:5jvtoggbymkbodoe4dljn6lq/bafkreicc6htdjtmyj22ohjhm7ldilf23h6gychbwhrtxvqexs7drdg5vsi)
