I'm very doom and gloom today. I don't like that feeling, I'm usually pretty optimistic.

40 minutes to go less than 7 miles. The road closures around here are getting out of hand. There's way too much construction going on in the city. When everything is open my commute is a brisk 20 minutes. Sometimes it takes me even longer to get home. I want that extra time back. :⁠-⁠(

The right ear speaker on my VR headset is crackley so I bought a replacement on ifixit. I took it all apart to install it. But it turns out the "right" speaker that I bought is actually the left if you're wearing it. So another order placed and I'll have to take it apart -again-.

I've started mentoring a mid level developer in the ways of infrastructure and operations after they came to me about furthering their career. I'm absolutely delighted to be able to still do practical training; managing people and directing infrastructure is great, but it feels good to teach again.

I'm having a serious imposter syndrome moment today; it will never stop being weird to me that I'm the IT expert that tons of academics around here look to for guidance. I know I have 27 years of IT experience. I know that I'm a former DevOps Solutions Architect. It still feels strange.

"Can you do it with AI?" is a question that really bugs me when I have proposed a less complicated solution that doesn't need to burn any tokens. It's like all of a sudden they don't care that my 27 years of industry experience means I know how to do most everything without AI.

I made an accessibility lever for my showerhead diverter since the arthritis in my hands has made it hard to grip and turn small knobs. I think I'm going to release it on printables to help anyone else who has trouble with this shower head.

It's funny how some memories feel recent even when they happened over a decade ago. At FCN 2009 our staff party Sunday night was so raucous we got our own security called on us. It was hilariously awkward. I remember shouting "What is FCN?" the crowd shouting back "a party!" then security came.
