Happy birthday to Winnifred Eaton, an early figure in Asian North American literature. Born in Montreal in 1875, Winnifred published over 200 novels, short stories, and screenplays. She is best known for her works published under the Japanese pen name “Onoto Watanna,”

Today is Red Dress Day — Canada’s National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ People.
Red Dress Day is on May 5, 2026. Jamie Paris' "No Landfill is a Grave"—featured in issue 263, is quoted: "the question has never been whether Indigenous women have knowledge to offer, but whether we have the critical humility to listen."
