In any sci-fi killer-AI film, this latency would be the fatal design flaw that allows our protagonist to defeat the AI's plans to destroy humanity. Like Geordi LaForge's "if only we could route the warp plasma through the isolinear chip matrix ..." and then Data does just that.

My wife called it a "crocheting show" - I watch it and she crochets beside me, usually not paying much attention. But now she's hooked too.

Parents on both sides had unexpected mobility issues late in life. If your house can be retrofitted with an elevator and other zero/low barrier amenities it's the way to go, imo, if you want to stay in a house. Good plan to be thinking of this early.

Born and raised in Eastern and Central Canada, but with about 1/3 of that in PA and VA, now living in MN. The NYT quiz says I'm from Miami or Anchorage.

Last time I did this (LastPass - > 1Password) I shoved the LP export file into 1PW as a document until I knew everything transferred smoothly. But now we have passkey everywhere so that might not be so easy.

*maybe* they'll backtrack but likely not. Regardless, I'm paid up for several months so that $ is gone. I finally convinced my wife to use a pwm, bought the family plan, but she's been slow to install it. At least when I switch us over she won't have to unlearn and relearn.

I wholeheartedly agree. I love Costco for the quality of their products (esp meats) but it's easy to go off-list and end up buying more than planned. Costco supplemented with our local ALDI has helped a lot.

Are there decent resources to guide people through this planning? I'm skeptical of generic google searches. Or is getting a "professional" involved sensible or worth the cost?

No honor among thieves? From the Lakeville Police blotter: An unknown suspect opened an unsecured loan for more than $16,000 in the victim’s name last year. The investigation is ongoing but strangely enough, the suspect has been making on-time payments and helping the victim’s credit along the way.

Dealing with any of that on top of an aging parent's medical crisis is horrific. Lots of emotions, hard conversations, anger, disappointment, and shock when nobody involved is at their best.

This LEGO set brought back a lot of childhood memories. I loved all the Tintin stories, read them all multiple times.
A completed LEGO set depicting the rocket ship used in the Tintin stories "Destination Moon" and "Explorers on the Moon".

I got a new suit and a monogram inside the jacket was part of it. "Most people put their initials" the salesman said. Nah.

Made it several times and each time I think "why don't I make this more often?" Also great to turn just one tater tot 90° relative to all the others to annoy your partner.

Costco already has a very loyal base, a progressive persona, detailed member spending data, and a mechanism for returning money to its members. Great PR alone if they actually gave some of their tariff refund back.

Canadian dairy product prices (for dairy products made in Canada) have always been roughly double US prices. That's how dairy production works in Canada. So there's always been a tariff at the border for dairy products from the US. I even got dinged once bringing 4 gal of milk from the US to Canada.

I love this idea. I've had something similar to this in my Windows Terminal for a while but that's not always in the foreground.
A Windows Terminal prompt that displays the current battery level is shown. The background image

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. ~ Blade Runner, Tears in Rain monologue by Roy Batty / Rutger Hauer

Jeff Atwood steps up to be a thing that’s sorely needed in tech right now: a leader. He actually *gives* half of his current net worth (not a pledge — he already cut checks) to 8 organizations helping the most vulnerable. blog.codinghorror.com/stay-gold-am... An inspiring move, when it most matters.

I've thought of a home water treatment system for a while in case of a Flint, MI situation or, more recently, PFAs. Dysentery and cholera (and others) were not use cases I thought I'd need to worry about.

So $25. Before or after tax? USD or gift source currency? MSRP or actual price? As Jack Reacher says, details matter. But you're right. The dual standard is ludicrous.

Listening to the Time Machine Weekend on 89.3 The Current is one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving - every hour, music from a different year, spanning many genres. I tuned in and the first thing I heard was Bobcaygeon by the Tragically Hip. Off to a good start.

I posted this on fb to friends, thought I would say something more generally. JD Vance was in Minneapolis this week, speaking outside the burned-out 3rd precinct police station and talking about the city as a lawless, frightening place 1/n www.cbsnews.com/amp/minnesot...
cbsnews.com
JD Vance claimed Minneapolis residents are giving up on the city. But is that true?
Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance claimed in a visit earlier this week that Minneapolis is so overrun by crime that residents are fleeing the city, but is that claim true?
