Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 14/10/2026Would love to, unfortunately flat broke after this trip tho so gotta make some $ lol 110
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 14/10/2026Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow that's for sure lol 110
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 14/10/2026Many thanks! 240, but they have a similar side profile :) 020
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 14/10/20267,431km, 11 days, and 6 provinces later, we are home :) Was one hell of a trip, and getting to see the less-travelled parts of Canada was awesome, so much neat hidden stuff. Now time to pass out for like 14 hours lol 2366
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 13/10/2026I'd be willing to take my 260z up the whole road for context , just slowly and carefully in some spots 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Yep! Honestly can be done in any car IMO. All the gravel bits are north of the dam and are almost all in great condition (nice hardpack, nearly as good as asphalt). The very last section to the Labrador border was like a rally stage comprised entirely of potholes though lol (But the 240 did fine) 110
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Pfft Probably, soon as I have time I'll be working on fixing it properly though (and ideally better than the factory volvo design) :) 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Many thanks! Brings me joy that people have been enjoying following along on the trip so much :) 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Ty! They are incredibly easy to keep alive that's for sure! And to be fair, this was a free car that i got a couple weeks ago and immediately have put 7,000km on roadtripping it, for rhis to be the first issue its' had I can't really complain :P 030
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Lmao It desperately needs a wash once we're home that's for sure! 000
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 12/10/2026No worries at all haha, much appreciated! Never a bad thing to be mindful of safety stuff :) 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 12/10/2026So far so good, nearly 800km down without issue on a Quebec road so bad that a gas station on the way sells "i survived route 389" stickers lol Also a cool dam i guess (It is very cool) 6735
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Oh i haven't touched any of the strut nuts for this; just added a spare i had on the extra thread of that stud to stop the zipties slipping off the top :) 110
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Ty! So far all seems to be going ok, nearly 800km down without issue. 110
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Ty! So far so good, drove all day without issues (knock on wood) 110
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Fingers crossed it's not broken off too deep yeah haha If flush or close should be easy to weld a nut to it 100
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Well it wouldn't be a roadtrip without *something* going wrong lol And uh the alternator tensioner arm bolt has snapped off in the block Zipties to the rescue, seems to work well enough to get home (i hope) 5300
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Ty! Hard to beat Hydras as far as OEM wheel options go :) 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Thank you! Roads should be clear tomorrow (fingers crossed) 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Hell yeah, do it! Tons of other stuff to see/do while in the area too 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Yeah, i know it snows much earlier up here but wasn't expecting THIS early lol 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 11/10/2026It's a straight shot south from here so should be ok as the snow is supposed to stop around midnight so everything will be plowed by tomorrow, we just need to be careful on the 389 The deep slush was the main issue, grip was fine otherwise 100
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Unfortunately have to beeline home for work etc but definitely plan to hit those next time And yeah, wasn't expecting snow season to start this early up here; have a set of snows for the car ofc but they're at home so not very useful rn lol. 200
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 11/10/2026These are all seasons as it happens; good spring/summer/fall tires but it was getting little sketchy in the deep slush 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Good: made it to Labrador City, found a rad mining truck Bad: no snow tires and it's snowing like a MF...in early October Last bit of the drive here was a bit sketchy so we're thinking we'll aim to stay here tonight until the roads have been cleared and then get home a day late 1010412
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Ty! 240s are the ideal roadtrip vehicle tbh, well worth the work :) And yeah! It mostly works lol, a bit temperamental (need to tap it sometimes for it to turn on), but i think that it just needs the plug contacts cleaned 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Thank you so much, and that is high praise! We shall definitely be back (hopefully before *too* long), Newfoundland is amazing and there is so much more I'd love to see and explore :) 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Waiting for the ferry to Labrador currently, made it without issues :) Definitely need to visit Newfoundland again (and for much longer), it's such an incredibly beautiful place 99011
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Another chilly early morning, on the way to the Labrador ferry 0251
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 10/10/2026True and real lol The vibes: correct Thus far it's been doing amazingly :) 030
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Would be rad to cross paths with him but unfortunately not, bought some stickers off his site ages ago and figured the volvo was a good place for one 000
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 09/10/2026It really is! Still several thousand kilometers to go before we get home 010
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 09/10/2026The volvo has officially reached the easternmost point of north america! Now to turn and burn 7h back west to a campground so we can drive another 3.5h tomorrow morning to make it to the Labrador ferry in time 5562
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Ok yeah that is impressive lol I guess it finally became not cost effective to maintain? 100
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 09/10/2026We're well north of there now unfortunately (we did visit 2 halifax a couple days ago tho) 110
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 09/10/2026That's pretty awesome! Beats the hell out of them being scrapped, that's quite a long life for a locomotive I'll give that a watch when cell service improves! 100
Ellie @canadian-rust.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Doing my best :) Have inertia now to defeat lack of executive function lol 020
