A male spruce grouse, which is a small and plump black, white, and grey bird with striking red eyebrows and gold-tipped tail feathers. It is in a calm state, just staring in the middle distance.

When it’s courting, it fans out its tail feathers behind it and you can really see the gold colour.

I asked a colleague if spruce grouse taste delicious. She said they taste too sprucey. Should have known.

An orange wedge-shaped Citicar, produced by Sebring-Vanguard from 1974 to 1977.

A yellow minibus-shaped Mibot, a forthcoming EV developed by Japanese automaker KG Motors.

A white Honda e, an adorable and discontinued electric vehicle that looks like a hatchback mated with a remote-control car. Produced from 2020 to 2024.

A forest screen Microlino, which looks like a beautiful bicycle helmet with wheels. Technically a quadricycle, not a car, and is currently being produced by Swiss Micro Mobility Systems.

closing Twitter meant some of the cool stuff I made with friends for that platform specifically were lost reposting one of my favourite works from the lockdown days: a love letter to Animal Crossing, created in no small part with my friend @qyoneda.bsky.social Love the little details in it.

Cam stands with fishing rod in hand, looking over an island beach sunset. A letter's text doubles as an internal monologue, opening with, "I just recently moved and it got me thinking about you. 19 years is a long time to be reaching out, I know, but I was curious about you."

Cam notices a ripe orange on a tree and plucks it. The sunset's glow strikes the rind of the orange, causing it to shimmer.

The letter continues," I feel like you always understood curiosity better than most."

The story flashes back to the past, with slightly more muted colours. Cam the human carries a fishing rod, waves and says "hey" to his friend Tangy as she arrives with her own fishing rod. Tangy is an anthropomorphic cat who looks a lot like an orange. Cam is wearing a blue plaid shirt and a matching hat with horns on it.

The letter continues, "Remember my first place? Took forever to pay off."

The next panel shows a few pieces of furniture: a green frog-shaped chair, a TV shaped like an apple, and a rocket-shaped stone robot creature called a Gyroid with a shocked face on it.

"My interior decorating skill needed some work," Cam says. "My fashion sense did, too." As the panel does a close up on Cam's smug face that seeks an approving reaction from his friend.

The letter goes on, "But even back then, I fancied myself a writer. All these years, that's been the one constant in my life."

Cam delivers a gift-wrapped package, leaving it with the post office's pelican secretary.

Cam and Tangy hang out by the river, Cam sitting and admiring an excited Tangy who is yelling and gesturing to the world around her.

Cam writes, "You always talked about far-off places like the ones in your magazines."

Tangy is nose-deep in a copy of a magazine fittingly called "Far-Off Places." Cam seemingly notices this, but in his denial he reads the back cover of the magazine.

He writes, "Looking back, I don't think I wanted to believe you. I always focused on working out the puzzles on the back page. The most difficult one was figuring out how to let you go."

Tangy boards a departing train, turning back to send Cam a final warm smile over her shoulder.

We flash back to present day, Cam lost in his memories as he stares down at the orange he had picked.

He writes, "I learned a lot from you, but I miss you, pal. You know where to find me. Please consider this an invitation."

Cam looks up from the orange and over the coastline, where an orange cat silhouette blurs into view.

Cam and Tangy lock eyes. They run to each other.

The letter closes with, "I hope that, one day, we can see each other again. Yours, Cam." The letter is stamped with the icon of Tuckpoint Island.

Cam and Tangy share a tight, reuniting embrace.

JumpStart 3rd Grade and Super Solvers Gizmos and Gadgets were what I remember best. Savin' robots and makin' soapbox cars.
