Victims of the Trishuli flood are bracing themselves as a major cyclone moves towards Nepal. Bodies continue to be recovered from flooded hydropower tunnels.

I finally got to see the 9/11 memorial this spring visiting my daughter, who has been a New Yorker for the last ten years. I remember sitting on the sofa while she played nearby, watching the towers fall. It's a beautiful work, but 9/11 twisted America.

This image isn't from yesterday's disaster in Nepal, but from a similar event that swept through the Nepali town of Melamchi five years ago. The headline on the story I took it from was: 'Could this happen again?'

Camped last night on Dartmoor after cycling from Plymouth. Those who imagine wild campers are a litter nuisance should check out the roadsides. Red bull cans, vapes, Maccy D wrappers. And this broken body, which was heartbreaking.

Publication day for my new book Upland: The Strange History and Vital Future of Britain's Mountains. It's essentially about how they were made, literally and in our heads, and how we used and abused them, and how they still carry us along. Enjoy!

Charming (and fun) art exhibition featuring slugs comes to an end at Sheffield’s Site Gallery on 1 Feb. They still can’t stay in my kitchen though.

I’ve never seen this photo until today, but it features a Tibetan general in 1949, just before China’s invasion of Tibet. The fact he’s wearing a British-style uniform makes me feel queasy.

For a moment there I thought he’d singled out Norfolk.

Tickets for mountaineering's hottest date of the year are selling out, so if you want to see two senior citizens still enjoying the gnarl, go get.
