Congrats to @gyroscope-app.bsky.social on their 12th birthday. There is a cool retrospect of the app's iteration here - gyrosco.pe/museum/. I'd love to see support for atproto based storage and aggregation. Your vitals on your PDS, community maintained appviews to get different perspectives on data

So this is the start of a series I've been working on to explain, in a coherent way, how we should be thinking about actually using LLMs to be useful, instead of the LinkedIn-esque "I burned $5000 on Fable AND--" The thumbnails aren't going to get any less dumb, though. That's the Ed Promise.

I always liked Ben Evans. this is an especially good example of what a good version of Zitron's analysis would look like: axes of variation, how they could play out, this or that is more likely. as opposed to "I'm certain what will happen next despite having been wrong every day for three years"

This took around 20 hours of focused work, alongside a bunch of other projects. With Sonnet 5 for discovery, Opus for execution, Fable as the brain, and pspace as my custom dev environment, this moved insanely fast. In the old days, this probably would’ve taken more than a week of focused work.

I think both "No AI" and "Full AI" are bad takes. They are bad because they are both ideological. You loose, the moment you let ideology guide you.

Tim Harford's 2 part series on the Panama Canal is one of my all time favourites. It's full of wisdom and cautionary tales, as well as examples of the engineering triumph (mostly in the second part though). Fundamental Attribution Error is the piece that has stuck with me the most.
