Affordability is a Democrat hoax. Everyone knows Americans have the cheapest groceries ever! The cheapest gas ever! Cheapest health care premiums ever! Those socialists will try to change all that so be scared, be very scared. Vote Republican to keep winning like you are now!

the complete hatred of language "gatekeeping" has seen an increasingly uneducated use of words in supposedly-professional journalism. If you can't spot it here, you're evidence of system failure. 👅

So sif? Common slang for syphilis, but sure, give America the sif. You're already selling her like a two bit whore so no big surprise.

Look. Even reading this article exposes him as riddled with cognitive dissonance. He wants "originalism" when it suits his personal proclivities. He wants an "original structure of government" that never existed, and apparently pines for the days when people knew their place. He is a bad man.

Putin has declared electric infrastructure is legitimate war target. At some point Ukraine will take him at his word and start targeting the aggressor's electricity. It is not purely civilian infrastructure when the attacker publicly states it is not.

Am I understanding this voter: Iran bombing Gulf shipping causes no change in US posture, but a clumsy attempt to steal diesel triggers a full retreat? What an odd time we live in.

As a Canadian observer of US politics, the only path back to democracy, even if enough Americans decide to show up in 2028 to elect a new adminstration, is a dramatic overhaul of the Supreme Court. They entrenched the notion that buying elections is protected speech, and gerrymanders just good fun.

And I definitely agree with your core point. I'm Canadian and am living with it in my own way. So my cautionary note is adding to the thread, not disputing it.

We NATO allies have been willing partners in that hegemony so we don't get a free pass. Failing to maintain a sane defense spending program and believing in our own fairy tales of a peaceful planet created the conditions for war. This predates Trump. We must learn a bit not to trust ourselves.

I trust Zelenskyy, and the Ukraine knows what it's doing. But as an outsider it is baffling that every Russian government building, bridge and rail station isn't bombed. The fear of collateral casualties is admirable. But these are legitimate targets, particularly given Russian civilian attacks.

Glad they got one and hope they get the rest. Despite the Republican's corruption of the institution, everyone needs to be protective of law enforcement lives especially including the FBI. The world must cooperate on bringing the thugs down or risk becoming their next victim.

The US Constitution must be a muddle-fuck. If a president can take over Congress's spending power merely by calling a cheque giveaway as a "rebate" it makes a mockery of "the power of the purse." You guys weird.

I still think a crown corporation with equity partnerships with mainstream universities, optionally municipal governments, solely focused on building and managing on campus housing across the country would pay dividends. Pull students out of local rental markets, increase rental stock and stability

A pedestrian bridge with iron rails and a wooden bed reaches over a ravine canopied in trees. The bridge curves out site. Fall leaves are collecting on both edges.

That Epstein-esque oligarchs will go to court to defend their power to nudify real people without consent is less shocking than a judge in any Common Law country not finding, regardless all other laws and regulations, that it violates the security of the person. A basic right for 100s of years.

Yah. It returns null result for me. I have a sizable private library that needs disposition but I suspect most will already be archived. It used to be over 1,000 books but now we're talking a few hundred. Sadly most of the gone ones were recycled because no one wanted them and I had no choice.

An scheme where a small number are indefinitely forced to transfer income to a large number is not sustainable. The 17 warn cutting such transfers may cause citizens to be less EU supportive. But what about the citizens of the few "givers?"? Losing them will lose the whole project. A dilemma.

It's easy to say "call his bluff" when you don't have 100s of millions of people dependent on the output of the blackmailer's diesel. The more important response is to further hasten a shift to energy independence with proven allies.

I disagree with your sugar coating. If some presents themselves as willfully engaged in torture, they are clearly a bad person. No philosophical contortions about the nature of the victim required. Evil rests on the intent of the actor. An actor who proclaims they are engaged in torture is evil.

Some Canadians ask why we don't cut energy to the US since they're so willing to threaten others with it. The answer is "because Canada is a reliable and honourable trader." We won't try blackmail with essential goods like energy. Because we are not the US. A traitor in the US. A trader in Canada.

Yes. I was kind of bragging that we're well positioned to increase our independence from the US. How you turned that into some bizzaro world thing, I don't know. Maybe literacy is a real issue for you. You think 98% and 100% were somehow making them look good? Hah.

In net debt terms the US is about 98% of GDP, France at about 100% of GDP and Canada at about 14%. As a Canadian I'm pretty comfortable sitting under 20% as we build out an alternative economy, but I'm always a bit bemused that our bonds aren't in higher demand despite the US aggression. FFS - 14%.

Canada is also working with Europe to develop lift capacity. Anyone who sarcastically dismisses these initiatives is either a troll or uninformed. FWIW, Canada has a history of domestic rocket launches with a space port in Manitoba. It just made sense to shift to a reliable ally, but well, yah.

Odd that the same oinker squeaking about excess supply today was snorting about building the biggest steel mill in the world some handfuls of hours ago. Kinda like the US dairy supply management system. Subsidize to create gluts, manage it by dumping, blame other countries for it all.

The thing is, you all will never prevent this corruption from reinfecting your democracy unless you reform the Supreme Court and undo the impunity of Presidents. Only ending the power of the executive to act without consequence has any hope of restoring American democracy.

Canada would be happy to lend a hand, I mean an arm, a Canadarm. The one on ISS is showing a little arthritis in its joints but it is a decade past its expected lifespan so not too surprising. Oh, and we're building new launch capability with Europe too! Yes EU-Can do science :)

Not in science, but I've written over a dozen and all were hired. I combine general with specific. Discuss with applicant projects they are proud of and can describe well. Use that. "Emily engages with teams well, for example organizing [XYZ] to a record result." Match to job requirements.

I kinda hope the Republicans*do* impose this ban. It would increase global supply of RAM outside the US and maybe relieve some of the absurd price pressures everyone is facing. Of course it'd jack up prices for Americans even more, but they voted for it, so bless 'em.

He's also notable for the fact that a throwaway wisecrack at a social encounter got reengineered over time into the "Fermi Paradox." He was brilliant for sure, and I suspect would be shocked how he is blamed for the entire stream of alien intelligence drama.

At the very least respective governments, for example Canada has a sanctioned judge, should provide these people with government credit cards and such other assistance as possible to circumvent. If the US wants to sanction entire NATO countries over a hissy fit, let the drama roll.

I'm uncomfortable with the framing "more than human-produced forms of emissions." If I understand the research these levels of ozone occur when natural tree emissions interact with human created pollutants. Why is it logical to assign that chemical reaction to the trees rather than humans?
