Had to take a detour on my ride today. Came across this good boy, politely asked him if I could get by. He responded by sitting down and eating some grass.
A black bear, on the side of a gravel path. Picture is taken farther away than is needed to get a good look, but probably closer than is safe

Easily the funniest part of the @cityofpoco.bsky.social traffic engineering is that they're absolutely rabid fanatics about implementing every traffic calming measure they can, but only if it's targeted at bicycles. Road? Flat, straight, clear Mixed-use path? Bends, curbs, fences, bollards
A mixed-use path with two increasingly bendy curves, lined with fences to enforce the turns. Beside it there is a perfectly straight and clear road.A multi-use path from the other direction, with uneven pavement and another curve. Past the curve is a marked crosswalk where the MUP has to come down to road level with curbs. To the side is a straight, flat, clear road.A "residential" street and Mixed-use path. The MUP curves to the right before the crosswalk, and has several signs and a bollard along the left-hand side, with hedges lining the right-hand side until the turn. The MUP has a hard curb down to a crosswalk that remains at the road level. To the side is a flat, straight, clear road.

Older kid is big enough to move to 24" wheels, which means I get a new little mini-restoration project. Wife sourced the beater, kid picked the component colours, now I get to have my fun.
An old used kids bike, stripped down a bit. Has one new pedal, but no handlebar ends. Both shifters are also broken. The same kids bike, slightly more together. Now has trigger shifter and grip on the right. The handlebar grip, shift and brake housing, and pedal all match in colour: a green against the yellow frame

Me, when the bear was a few steps away from being all the way across the bridge: it's probably safe for me to start going up onto the bridge Me, five seconds later when the bear was spooked by something on the other side and charged straight at me at full speed: Oh

Well it finally happened to me: Our utility ebike was stolen. Locked it up in a pretty trafficked area to a standard bike rack with a nice u-lock, but I guess it wasn't quite enough. We've put out all the 529 alerts, but we're not too optimistic about the chances.

Picked up a book from the local library Took the long way there. Then the longer way home
A steel frame touring bicycle with a background of a cloudy but bright sky behind, looking over the waterTwo navigation histories. One is a 9.75km trip to the library, the other is a 17.66km trip back. The library is probably about 5km away, the routes go very out of the way

"Was not able to provide further details about the cause of the collision" Ok but at some point a motor vehicle ran into a pedestrian, right? Like literally they don't even mention that a car or a truck hit someone? Just that there was a collision, nobody knows how it happened.

They definitely figured out what the problem with this part of the path was and absolutely figured out how to solve it
A very steep wiggle in a mixed-use path to avoid several old utility poles. A desire path cuts directly through the corner.

A newly installed fence cuts off access to this desire path and forces everyone to take the full wiggle.

It's the next morning and I'm still in disbelief about this one. I'm the green line. The light had cycled to red and I had a big ol' crossing signal. I have to dodge and stop mid-way through the intersection while a car blasts through the red light, screeching to a stop at the red line.

I feel like when you get to "Don't listen to music or podcasts if you are walking anywhere" on your list, you should maybe ask whether you're being helpful and providing safety tips, or whether you've lost the real points somewhere along the way.

Rest of family is camping as of today, I still have work tomorrow, and one kid was in daycare while my wife left to set up the campsite. Picked up the kid, took him to the campsite, had dinner, made s'mores, and managed to make it home for bed. Get to ride back on the acoustic after work tomorrow

On the way home, right around these hills, 22k in, a dude rocketed paste on the second one, casually goes, "These hills, eh", and speeds off, hitting 35km/hr on flats and descents easy. I get close at a light, he's on a Fixie. That dude fucking rocks. Coolest thing I've seen in a while

Spent the last two work days at UBC. Taking a bus from transit was going to take just as long as biking, so I just had a nice long commute. Snuck in just over 100km in two days, and took in some gorgeous views. Photo doesn't really do it justice

We found a real beat up Norco kids bike a few months ago for free on the side of the road. One shifter and pedal completely destroyed, no grips, brakes all sponge, etc. Finally got around to restoring it today Also swapped out both kids bikes grip shifers for triggers - make it easier for 'em

I think the ridiculus semantics of "Mathematical programming" having nothing to do with computers, but instead dealing with, like, using mathematics to set the program of events at an army base is one of my favourite confusing terminology origin stories.

In March, I noticed that I was getting in better and better cycling shape from riding the e-bike everywhere. I kept turning down the motor, and thought to myself that maybe if I had a good non e-bike, maybe I'd use it some days. Turns out I'll use it on most days
