You'd follow this up by selling off some UFAs at the deadline, writing off this season, picking high, and then let your team be young and see who pops. Edvinsson loss would be big here, but your young D are breaking through, and this transforms your forward pipeline.

It definitely is beginning to look like an organizational position of strength. And something like Edvinsson for Desnoyers is more akin to a mini-rebuild - that's a guy that could contribute in a year or two, not 3-5 years from now.

I'd prefer to keep Edvinsson because he's proven and young. But it's true that if you're able to get a Desnoyers or Iginla for him, it does make a Larkin trade a lot easier to pull off. Particularly with a team like Washington for example.

I do think it drives him insane that his father was so revered and he is not. But I hear people like Friedman disputing the idea that Yzerman was on a leash (he strongly disputed the Stamkos story), and I just don't know what to make of all this. Does seem like people don't want the job.
