This meme hit me like a sledgehammer. How do you tackle a big scary creative project? I’ve started to break it down into manageable chunks and just handle one item at a time until it’s less big and scary and then all of a sudden the last item is done and the project is complete. Anyone have tricks?

We saw humpback whales and bottlenose dolphins this weekend out in the New York Bight. Absolutely breathtaking experience.

Biggest aid would be a makeshift copy stand. If you’re using a phone, there’s plenty of good-enough rigging options. I use MagSafe doodads from Ulanzi and Leofoto, they have Arca Swiss plates for mounting to a tripod head & the Ulanzi is magnetic on its base and has a hook for overhead angles.

Reading Octavia Butler’s Kindred and seeing that the Venn diagram between the faceless thugs terrorizing folks and patrollers is a single circle. All these enforcement regimes are sleeper cells for this particular form of racialized violence — break glass in case of class consciousness.

Just received word of the passing of a great photographer, Rosalind Fox Solomon. I am very grateful I had the opportunity to get to know her and work briefly in her studio in 2016, digitizing parts of her archive. She had a keen and compassionate eye and there’s simply no one else like her.

I had the pleasure of photographing a student matinee of the musical Ragtime at the New York City Center. It was powerful listening to the effect this potent work had on the full theatre of children from every walk of life across New York. Gasps, indignation at the many atrocities depicted.
